do you people really not understand how business works? the owner is the boss. businesses are not democracies. the owner gets to do what he/she wants to do. he/she is in no way required to hold a vote to see what the employees think of the boss's decisions.

in the case of apple, the shareholders own the company. the board of trustees is elected by the shareholders and is empowered to make decisions on behalf of the shareholders.

you better believe that apple's board decided on this. it wasnt just steve jobs.

the employees have no part in this equation.
1 - ITS A USER DEFINED TERM TO MEAN WHATEVER WE WANT IT TO AS A SOCIETY.

that's exactly what it is now. it is a legal term. when you get married, you get a certificate from the state saying you are married. your church might give you something, but that's not a legal document.

legal definitions in this country are "user defined." they are not simply copied over from religious texts, as you might find in saudi arabia or iran.

the supreme court of california has held that the state constitution guarantees the equality of all citizens with respect to the law, and so language inserted in the civil code barring members of the same sex from marrying each other is unconstitutional.

unfortunately the supreme court also ruled that prop 8 is merely an amendment to the constitution and not a change, and so is not required to pass the legislature by 66% vote. clearly the supreme court wants to force the issue one more time with the voters.

that's absolute nonsense. marriage has nothing to do with being "open to life." i was married to my wife by a judge, and nowhere on the documents we signed did it say that we can not use contraception, nor are we required to have sex with one another. sorry to break it to you buddy, but marriage is sanctioned by the state in this country, not by god.

if it is legal for people to be married without being compelled to have children (and believe me, it is) then the whole argument about marriage being about creating life is bankrupt.

keep your religion out of my bedroom. our society is founded on equality for all. its right there in the beginning of the constitution of the united states america. maybe you should read it sometime.
its *very* cheap to apple. they have 25 billion dollars in the bank. 25 billion dollars generates 750 million dollars a year in simple interest at 3%. that's 24 dollars per second, so it takes 1 hour and 9 minutes to earn $100,000 in interest.

in reality it's much less, since i'm sure they are earning compound interest, and they are probably getting more than 3% for their money.

but forget about that. apple makes 12.7 million dollars a day in profits. so that $100,000 is 12 minutes worth of profits.
thats true, it does compare favorably to a regular car, even in N california.

i have 2 priuses and i guess it costs about the same to run 220 miles. i didnt do that math, it was late.

as others have pointed out the top PG&E tiers around here range from 0.30 to 0.38 $/kwh depending on the time of year. electricity is very expensive in N. california. i guess i have this very outdated bias of thinking that electricity is essentially free, and so the tesla numbers came as kind of a shock (ha ha) to me.
holy crap, if this is right, then we're talking about 50KWh per day to charge the thing. in northern california, this is going to cost you about $16.50 a day to charge. that's a fortune.

you better have a PV solar system on your roof if you own one of these things. and even mid-sized PV systems only do about 40KWh on the best summer days... ouch.
i worked at sun in the late 90s... zander was a scumbag and none of this surprises me.
@3 : the X11.app in leopard is pretty broken. you can download updates to X11 for leopard at xquartz.macports.org.

someday apple will pick up these changes and release them thru software updater.
yes, and my point is that the prius is not a metro or a festiva. those are ultracompact, low-end cars, to put it gently. poor build quality, no amenities, no safety. great car for a college student, but not for me at my age.

also the festiva NOx/CO/CO2/particulate emissions are nowhere even in the ballpark of the prius.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
