How would you change MSI's Wind? {Engadget}
Jul 25th 2008 7:00PM What's shipping? Not my 6-Cell version from Buy.com that I pre-ordered nearly 2 weeks ago!
Electric MINI hitting US streets in summer 2009 {Engadget}
Jul 22nd 2008 1:29PM We don't get the MINI D's in the USA/Canada. Only gasoline (petrol) models.
I have a 430 mile highway range on my MINI Cooper (gasoline). I would only be interested in an electric MINI if it had that much of a range, but of course, it won't.
So, unless they have some voodoo magic batteries, I see this as only a municipal fleet vehicle, not a replacement for regular folks' cars.
Samsung gets official with 14.7MP TL34HD point-and-shoot {Engadget}
Jul 16th 2008 12:15PM Is "Schneider-Kreuznach" a real company that anyone's heard of outside of Samsung cameras or just a "German-sounding company that evokes images of 'precision'"?
Evidence mounts for August Eee PC carnage with $299 Dell E launch {Engadget}
Jul 15th 2008 3:28PM I have an Eee 701. I'm typing on it now.
I will only upgrade to an Atom-based 8.9" or 10" with a 6-cell battery, and min 12GB storage (HDD or SSD). I like the idea of SSD, but I'll take an 80GB HDD in a pinch. Apparently, performance is not affected, and it's user-replaceable/upgradable. I'm not in the habit of dropping my laptops anyhow ;-).
Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to upgrade.
So, this Dell E, the Acer Aspire One, etc... are not good enough.
The MSI Wind, with the 6-cell battery is my current frontrunner. The Asuses are too expensive to consider anymore.
From the articles, it appears Dell does not plan to offer beefier configurations of the Dell E, and neither is Acer.
I don't care for the HP offering (not Atom-based), and it's rather bugly.
Audi A1 not bound for U.S. shores {Autoblog}
Jul 13th 2008 1:15PM VW are losers. They can't sell enough here because they make unreliable cars (or at least they were). Their market share is minuscule.
They can keep it, as long as we get the MiTo and any other goodies coming out.
There are enough other players that could fill the void without their ho-hum designs anyhow.
Now, it would be awfully nice if Peugeot would come back here like they love to hint at, but don't seem to ever actually strive towards. I could live with a 306cc ;-).
iPhone 3G review {Engadget}
Jul 11th 2008 10:52AM Basic question for reviewer:
Are the buttons on the music player in portrait mode any larger than before?
All the screen is wasted on stupid, worthless album art, but the actual controls are tiny and easy to miss while driving. Likewise, the song title display is ultra-tiny. Not cool with the iPhone sitting it its dock, while driving on either count!
Given that it's a touch-screen, they could literally take up the full bottom half of the screen for good effect, but they are so tiny and hard to hit, it's silly. Get your music player controls right, Apple. It's an IPod, after all!!
This is actually one of my most major gripes about the iPhone.
It's so easily fixed too via a software "skin" addition.
Album art is sily. There should be an option to get rid of it, and to let all the important components on the screen take over the space it vacates.

GM dropping Volt's range from 600 to 360 miles {Engadget}
Jul 9th 2008 12:23PM I've no doubt that the end result will be a car that's horrible to drive. It's what GM does best.
Dyson looking to motor into the electric car arena? {Engadget}
Jun 25th 2008 11:09AM I think James should first work out how to make the battery on his hand-held vacuum last more that TWO MINUTES before he gets this ambitious.
I'm not exaggerating: 2 minutes.
Bob Lutz on Volt: "no reasonable doubt... this is going to work" {Autoblog}
Jun 18th 2008 11:06PM Actually, The Other Bob, I read differently, which is why I wrote what I wrote:
Karmann assembles the top module at its own factory and delivers the entire unit to GM's Orion, Michigan, plant. The modules are then inserted right into the assembly line to the designated car. Pontiac says this process cuts down on manufacturing complexity and makes the car stronger. They say it also allows them to dedicate up to 25 percent of factory production to the convertible as demand rises.

I am impressed though. The roof is INSTALLED in Michigan. That's worthy of high praise for GM's technical prowess and skill.
