Microsoft to OEMs: cut off free Vista to Windows 7 upgrades at 25 {Download Squad}
Jun 30th 2009 3:45PM Large businesses don't buy individual licenses. They have Open IDs with VLKs. They pay a large chunk of change annually to have unlimited access to MS's offerings. Every time a new product comes out they receive a new key and disc. So this doesn't affect business of that size, anyway.
Interview: WayForward's Voldi Way talks blobs, Shantae, and street cred {Joystiq}
Jun 15th 2009 2:20PM You know how most people name-drop celebrities? I name-drop people like Voldi and Matt. I've had the privilege of meeting and hanging out with both of them at E3, and occasionally run into them in Valencia. You'd be hard pressed to meet nicer, more interesting guys, and I continue to geek out over their work. Matt's an awesome artist who's managed to carve out a unique and extremely recognizable style, and the entire team's beyond talented. It's too cool to have such a great developer in my home town and to actually know these guys. Although, to be honest, I'm not sure either one remembers my birth name. Matt even had to introduce me to his wife as TurboFool.
Engadget's recession antidote: win a Microsoft Gaming Pack! {Engadget}
May 18th 2009 4:27PM I'd love to pick up some new PC games and hardware. Now that my wife's taken over the TV with the Wii, I'm getting back into PC gaming.
Engadget's recession antidote: win a copy of Need for Speed Undercover for Xbox 360! {Engadget}
May 14th 2009 7:58PM My opinion on the world economy issue is simply that priorities need to be refocused. We have too many little needs that are sapping at our incomes. It's easier and easier to spend small amounts of money constantly, which saps us faster than the big items we have to think about more readily. If people recognized that better, we might be in better shape.
Anyway, I'd love a copy of the game. I'm a big fan of the Need for Speed line, but never got around to picking this one up.
Twitter changes @reply settings again, users protest {Download Squad}
May 13th 2009 1:45AM I'm beyond pissed off about it. I did use it heavily to find new conversation topics and new interesting people. Twitter instantly lost a great deal of interest for me. This needs to be changed back FAST.
Microsoft denies Twitter-sourced Zune rumors {Engadget}
May 12th 2009 3:00PM The jackass who made that profile just revealed that he did the whole thing to get attention to push his anger at Apple's lack of efforts to stop piracy. He's now tweeting what he meant to all along, now that he got the attention he wanted. What a jerk.
Amazon Kindle DX announced: $489, ships this summer {Engadget}
May 6th 2009 10:52AM Right, because you can read books on a PS3 or 360 while on the go.
Look, you all can list all the things that you can get for less money, but NONE of them will produce as good a reading experience as this will. Reading books on a computer, even a netbook, is not convenient or comfortable, especially in an academic environment. And battery life is a serious issue.
While I am NOT one who would even consider spending this much money on one of these, and one who doesn't have the free time to justify the lower-priced Kindle either, there are still no other devices (besides actual books or alternate e-readers) that can top the experience for less money. Certainly not all the things you suggested that aren't ebook readers.

Apr 27th 2009 4:15PM Your ad hominem attack skills are only surpassed by your lack of knowledge of pioneering animated television. In the future, stick to debating the topic you're familiar with instead of bypassing into a subject in which you're completely ignorant.

Apr 27th 2009 2:51PM It's not marketed to people who have machines they can dedicate it to, it's marketed to average joes who need cheap phone service and can't afford Vonage or the likes. Those are the people who aren't going to have an extra machine lying around to use JUST for this purpose. As such, it shouldn't require third-party hacks and dedicated servers to be useful. Same reason that, while I swear by my Windows Mobile phone, I would never support marketing it to my mother.

Apr 22nd 2009 6:03PM Who cares what it looks like? Most of the market. Looks are, sadly, everything. And when you have to stare at the ugly splash screen every time you boot or plug it in for as much as a minute while it does, indeed, block part of the screen (percentage is irrelevant when it's the CENTER), it matters more. Granted I could probably manage to make due with the thing and work around its shortcomings, but I'm not its target market. Its target market are people far less knowledgeable than you and I who are far more easily frustrated by its poor design. And none of its design flaws aren't easily overcome by better effort on the part of the designer.
