Zune headquarters mini-tour {Engadget}
May 9th 2008 1:14PM The new campus (posted links below to some info on it) will be just across the freeway from main campus. It used to be the headquarters for Eddie Bauer. The place where Zune is now, is a campus that used to house the Redmond site for Safeco Insurance (that company was just recently sold to Liberty Mutual).
Zune headquarters mini-tour {Engadget}
May 9th 2008 1:11PM The cubes are due to the building, which was purchased from an insurance company who use to reside on the campus where this buildinfg is located, it wasn't designed for permanent use. The place they are moving is under construction and due to be occupyable near the end of summer to fall timeframe. You can see it being built (and check pictures from each day and see a timelapse) here:

Quote from above article -
"The company is also building one of the Western Hemisphere's largest underground parking garages -- with room for about 5,000 vehicles, on four stories. It will be beneath a central playfield and commons buildings on the West Campus."
Microsoft and NBC working on copyright filters for Zune? {Engadget}
May 7th 2008 10:12PM Seriously? Explain to us how they would manage to even differentiate between pirated and non-pirated. Go ahead, I'll wait.
There is nothing illegal about recording Battlestar on your MediaCenter or Vista Ultimate PC. You can then also legally copy this over to your Zune (in fact the Zune software will even transcode this for you into Zune format!). So how, do you propose, for the software or NBC to tell if you paid for it off their marketplace, or recorded it at home? Both are perfectly legit and legal. Likewise, Many download the shows using a torrent app, which are many times recordings from TiVo's or Media Center type boxes, and as such, there is no way either to tell if you copied that file from your recording PC, or from someone on an illegal bitorrent.
This is a very slippery slope and not something MS is interested in getting into - there is no reason to even try, it wouldn't make them any money, and only serve to drive away customers.
Granted, I'm sure taking a comment from some PR lackey at a media giant knows what they are talking about when it comes to technology, and I am sure that MS would be the ones who have no idea about development of this.
Zune headed for Canada on June 13th! {Engadget}
May 6th 2008 11:49AM But then you would have to live in the rust belt...
Zune TV lineup gets some NBC love {Engadget}
May 6th 2008 11:45AM When I can put the NBC's free stuff in my pocket and watch it on the bus on the way into work, or on a plane, or driving on a road trip, you have a deal.
Until then, having shows I can watch on demand, when I want, and stop and resume at my leisure = ftw
Microsoft pulls bid for Yahoo!, Microhoo will never be {Engadget}
May 5th 2008 10:07AM 22.52 a share and falling fast (lost over $6 a share so far)
Anyone taking bets where it will level off today (if it should happen to level off)?
Zune to hit Canada in May with a smaller lineup? {Engadget}
May 1st 2008 1:02PM haha! Amazing how Opera, Firefox, Mozilla, and others somehow happen to thrive in this oppressive, illegal, bundling environment. The facts that there was/is illegal activities that you are trying to tie into the failure of Netscape ignores that it died for many reasons, some of which are poor company management, and a poor product in that it stopped being innovative and prodiving customers what they wanted - if it had provided what people wanted it would still be around, much like the other browsers I mention above.
What's sad is that you actually believe this. If something is inferior, consumers will not use it. No matter if it's free or not.
Zune to hit Canada in May with a smaller lineup? {Engadget}
May 1st 2008 11:39AM You choose to hear what you want. During the timeframe that IE was competing with Netscape it was a far better solution. Part of the formula was that IE was/is free - if Netscape had it's way you would still have to buy a browser, that is how they got started.
Stop nit picking and look at the larger picture. What defines if something it better or successful is if people use it. Netscape was not better, even after they made it free, or it would still be around. Saying that IE was bundled with Windows is the reason is a crock, if it were true Firefox wouldn't exist either.
This has nothing to do with if IE is a better browser now, it has to do with what it competed against at the time - just like Zune is not competing with the iPod that is coming out 5 years from now, it's competing with what is on the market now. People have a right to choose, they do so with their money, and if they want to suppport one or the other they do it by buying that product.
It always amazes me that those who are the most rabid are who tend to point their zealous fingers at other first. I hear cries of support for the underdog products when they are competing against MS, and how the competition is good and drive innovation, but when it comes to a product competing with Apple, the shoe is always on the other foot.

May 1st 2008 10:32AM I seem to remember them playing catchup in the browser wars back in the day too. They started WAY too late, and now Netscape owns all your browsers!
wait a tick...
That is to say that it's never too late for a good product well placed.
Microsoft turns the DRM screw on MSN Music owners {Engadget}
Apr 23rd 2008 1:42PM Good thought, but does zero good for someone who doesn't own a Zune. Most of people using MSN do not own Zune, since it would be redundant, and you have to use the Zune application to transfer music anyway.
Unfortuantely this would just be turned into another negative saying "Yea right bait and switch! Now you want me to have to buy your damn ZUNE to play music I already paid for!"
No win situation =\
