NYPD implores citizens to submit photo and video evidence {Engadget}
Aug 2nd 2008 6:47AM Cool! I'm sending in an incriminating pic of the Police Commish waving his dick in public.
Give me a few minutes and he'll be fondling a child in it, too!
Eee PC 901, 904, and 1000 get UK pricing {Engadget}
Jul 9th 2008 7:44PM This table has at least one wildly inaccurate number, the width of the 901 is not 125.5 mm, but more like 175.5 mm. I lack the patience to check the other numbers, but do hope that the price doesn't turn out to be 799 instead of 299.
Palm announces Q4 earnings -- it's not as bad as you think {Engadget}
Jun 27th 2008 11:02AM It's Ed Colligan's fault if the iPhone lovers shriek at every post. He's the doof who proclaimed that Apple couldn't him beat him at smartphones because they're too inexperienced and it's just too hard to make a good smartphone.
I agree that the Centro is a good stopgap, but it will not save them and neither will the 800. WM can't save them ever.
Palm made its rep doing EXACTLY what Blackberry and iPhone are doing right now: making it easy on the end user. WM is a ball and chain that will keep them perpetually behind Blackberry and iPhone. Using WM puts them into a feature war with HTC and others. They'll lose that war. They need easy products on a modern OS. By the time they do that, Android may have brought down the hammer.
So, no, don't blame the iPhone fanbois for this one. Palm is getting just desserts from all sides.
HTC Advantage X7510 available to USers for $1,300 {Engadget}
Jun 18th 2008 4:44PM I had a loaner OQO 02 for a while and, having given it back, have to decide whether to buy one. I might prefer the 7510 at the same price. XP is sooo not designed to be whipped out of your pocket and used while you're standing in line at the airport. The five-second wake-up from suspend seems like forever when someone is waiting for an answer. Battery life is so limited I have to be careful about when to use it. The fan is so loud that I find everyone staring at me when I just want to google some quick info.
Of course, it all depends on use. If I wanted a machine I could sit down with in a temp office while visiting a client, oqo would rule. It's really more the frequent brief things that I could almost do with a cell phone but need a bigger screen that spark my interest in the 7510. The built-in GPS is nice, too, but the large screen and the VGA out are the two things no cell phone can match. The instant response is the thing no OQO / Netbook / UMPC can match.
Minox Rolleiflex AF 5.0 digicam takes you back -- way back {Engadget}
Jun 6th 2008 12:23AM I read somewhere that Rolleiflex TLRs are the only pro camera from the 1950s still in daily use. Apparently they were built like tanks. What I remember from childhood was looking through the viewfinder and being blown away by the brightness of the image. I couldn't understand how you could get that without electronic enhancement. It was sort of a free lesson in the awesome power of high-end optics.
Palm CFO keeps cards, products, anything interesting close to the vest {Engadget}
May 20th 2008 9:34AM I continue to receive TOP SECRET information from Palm about its upcoming plans.
After the already mentioned introductions of the products code-named "Hindenburg" and "Titanic", Palm is planning two incredibly game-changing product intros, code-named "Edsel" and "New Coke". It's hard to imagine the impact these products will have on a market already reeling from Palm's masterful leadership.
Throughout these product introductions, Palm plans to continue its highly successful "roll over and play dead" corporate strategy. This has effectively lulled competitors into a false sense of security while Palm prepares its next revolutionary move.
Palm's biggest secret, and the one I'm almost afraid to share because they may turn on me for revealing it, is that they've engineered a "wait and see" approach to the smart phone market. This gives them a few additional precious years to "sit tight" and possibly be acquired or go out of business while competitors "spin their wheels" trying to satisfy demand.
Palm Treo 800w caught with its keys showing {Engadget}
May 15th 2008 11:32PM I've heard an ultra-secret rumor, that Palm is coming out with two new models better than the Zeppelin. They're code-named Hindenburg and Titanic. They will really explode on to the scene. They'll break up the competition. ... Oh, what's the use?
Zune 2.5 update brings TV downloads, Zune Card sharing {Engadget}
May 6th 2008 12:56AM Can't Microsoft just make it simple for us?
1. Buy all the world's content: shows, tunes (you have an extra $44B)
2. Suffocate competitors by new Zune-only codecs
3. Complaints about bias suddenly end!

Microsoft pulls bid for Yahoo!, Microhoo will never be {Engadget}
May 4th 2008 7:31PM For once I feel sorry for the Microsoft Fanbois who are forced to do a little tapdance to the tune of:
"Microsoft Actually Won Because Nobody Guessed Yahoo Stock Would Fall After This!"
Border Patrol's virtual fence canceled for not being as good as a fence {Engadget}
Apr 24th 2008 7:54AM @Bill,
I'm sorry you're an idiot and stuff. Oh well.
Illegal immigrants pay an estimated $16 Billion / year in taxes. That's not in dispute. What the gasbags on talk radios can't agree on and don't bother to study in any quantitative way is how much money they suck up in "services." Estimates there range very widely among people (not you) who do any homework at all.
Closing the border sounds simple to people who don't live there and can't be bothered to check the numbers. I lived there when the border traffic was slowed to a trickle in late 2001 and people on my side (USA) suffered economically. We used to make a lot of money on Mexican tourists. Gonesky. Turns out that rich Mexicans don't like to combine weekend shopping with proctological exams. Who knew?
