How would you change Pentax's K-7 DSLR? {Engadget}

Aug 29th 2009 4:34AM I have one, and I love it.

Having said that, high ISO performance is not as good as the Nikon's. It isn't bad, and I am happy shooting at 1600, but it could be better.

The auto focus is really fast. The focus assist lamp works really well.

I am more than happy with the HD video recording. The ability to change aperture on a A lens while shooting would be nice, as would the ability to set the shutter speed for video shooting. But these are features many dedicated video cameras don't have.

The size is really nice, and the bulk is reassuring, it is a solid strong body. The weather sealing is brilliant!

I will not start an argument about full frame vs non full frame. If you were given two photos with out the exif there is no way to know which is full frame which isn't. And if anyone starts dissecting pixels to the point where they can work it out they really don't care about photography as much as pure numbers. Full Frame would give shallower DOF, and wider aspect on a given focal length, but that is it.

When I bought this camera I also purchased a D90 for a friend, and I had the chance to play around with both. The D90's high ISO is really good. Better than the K-7, but the rest is a clear win for the K-7. (If you scale down a 14.6 to the 12.3MP of the D90, the high ISO becomes even less of a difference.)

Cheers, Tim.

iPhone 3G S supports OpenGL ES 2.0, but 3G only supports 1.1 -- will the App Store splinter? {Engadget}

Jun 10th 2009 5:48AM Aside from launching applications quicker, having applications that are designed for the new processor may run at half the speed on the old ones. This, and the graphics capabilities means the store will NEED to be splintered.

Apple shouldn't cut users off from the higher end applications, they will push them as a reason to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

iPhone 3G S supports OpenGL ES 2.0, but 3G only supports 1.1 -- will the App Store splinter? {Engadget}

Jun 10th 2009 5:33AM Short answer, Yes.

Game developers will want to use the update power of the 3GS, and these applications wont be able to run on the 3G. This is the start of the Ovi store, which Apple said was confusing because they have many phone types, and not all applications work on all phones.

Well, any phone the relies on 'Proper' GPS wont work on a 2G. Any phone that uses the comppas or has heavy 3D graphics wont work on the 3G. And any future application that relies on what is in the 4th generation iPhone wont work on the previous models.

It is the Mac OSX machine in your pocket, and just like the ones our desks, they get out dated, and require a hardware refresh to support new and exciting features.

Pentax gets official with 14.6MP K-7 DSLR: HD movies, HDR mode {Engadget}

May 20th 2009 10:22PM Actually it could combine images in a custom function. It was limited to JPGs but you could take multiple exposures and combine them in camera. Wasn't labeled HDR, and was a manually process, but it had it.

Cheers, Tim.

Pentax K-7 hands-on shots leak out {Engadget}

May 19th 2009 6:16PM I couldn't agree more. This is not aimed to take on the lower end models, but the 50D and D90.

Nikon readies entry-level DSLR with articulating display for April 14th launch? (updated with spyshots!) {Engadget}

Apr 6th 2009 7:40AM It reminds me a lot of the Pentax K2000D / Km. The single dial on the right, with no dedicated top 'Status' LCD.

Ask Engadget: Best portable internet device? {Engadget}

Aug 21st 2008 10:52PM N810 - Firefox with FLASH.

Touch based interface (which is awesome for web surfing), Flash for all of those pages that use Flash, and there are a LOT.

It also has a qwerty keyboard when bashing out quick emails and chatting.

I has to be the N810.
