I'm too old and I have a job to be getting anything fancy. I was one of the people giving prestents. I did get some money and a couple of shirts. I did get a bar of soap in the shape of an NES controller.
@snapa

Yes. This is the 13-incher I recommend to people who aren't power users. It's one of the best laptops for this category.

Also, Wildman also recommended a good 14 incher if you can afford to bump it up a bit. It has *slightly* better performance plus you get an optical drive (the UL30 series does not come with an optical drive according to their specs). Of course, if you're just taking notes, that extra oomph and a CD/DVD/BD drive becomes unnecessary.

You have to remember that the Wii's large consumer base is largely consisted of the casual crowd. The reason developers don't make good games on the Wii is because good games don't sell on the Wii. Look at Madworld, Silent Hill, Zack & Wiki. Those didn't sell. Look at Animal Crossing, Mario Party 8, Deca Sports. Those are in the top list of best selling Wii games according to Wikipedia.

You can use the graphics argument all you want, but last generation completely proves you wrong. The PS2 was the least graphically advanced console of last generation, but people bought the good games! So more good games were created. It has a massive library of great games not because of graphics, but because the consumer base of the PS2 actually went out an bought the good games. The Gamecube was a more powerful system than the PS2, but developers didn't make as many good games that they did for the PS2 and XBox. It was simply because their games won't sell on it.
Wow, I didn't know I had such a common phone (Samsung Rant). I BARELY see anyone using that phone, and I live in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. I see more Verizon phones everywhere with an iPhone here and there.

How in the world is the Rant so popular? It has pretty decent hardware, but the firmware is a piece of crap. I can create a HUGE list of problems with the Rant's firmware, but I'm not even gonna bother. I'm already on my 3rd Rant within the last year, due to the firmware crapping out on me (the Sprint rep told me the last one was due to a bent phone when I could clearly tell it wasn't bent). I could just have really bad luck with this phone, but I've definitely had my fair share of problems.

The one thing I can definitely say was good was the GPS/Traffic functionality. It has gotten me out of tight spots before (Like I said, I travel between LA and OC a lot). Plus it's a huge upgrade in performance compared to the LG Rumor that I had before. That's probably the only thing I know of that was pretty good... And YouTube functionality, though the service was pretty spotty.
@nigra

Not really. Most Wii owners are definitely oblivious to technological advances, since most are in the non-gaming demographic anyway, but I'm in the small group who owns more than just a Wii, and I'm definitely more aware of technological advances than most people (Oh hey look, I'm a regular at Engadget).

In any case, I could care less that there is no Unreal Engine on the Wii... But that's because I play all my FPS games on a PC. My Wii is for Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and other big Nintendo franchises. If I want to play something running the Unreal Engine, I use my PC.

It is a sad day to be a Wii-only gamer, however, because the system itself is a piece of crap. The Wii Remote is definitely an amazing piece of hardware as we've seen with all the random non-gaming tasks people have hacked it for, but the system is one of the most backwards pieces of hardware (and software) that I've ever seen.

Back to the subject at hand, I would never play an FPS on my iPod Touch. The PC is still where FPS games shine in my opinion.
Already have everything unlocked except for the item switch. I love all Smash Bros. games (with Melee as my personal favorite), and this is the game that started it all. The games are vastly different from each other with the ridiculous hitstun of the first game to the crazy combos of Melee and finally the slowness and floatiness of Brawl, so I like having all three.

My N64 cartridge won't save anymore, so this was a sure buy for me.
@furquanatique

I don't know why people bag on the iPod sound quality so much. PCWorld.com has lab tests proving that the iPod Touch and iPod Nano 5th Gen are still two of the best-in-class portable audio players in terms of audio quality.

I can also say that the iTouch has pretty good quality from my own experience. I went from using a 1st gen iPod shuffle, to using my cell phone, to a 2nd gen iPod shuffle, to a Sansa Fuze, and then to a 2nd gen iPod Touch all within the last year and a half. I liked my old shuffle, but it had only 512 MB of space. I got a 2nd Gen Shuffle when I noticed how horrible the signal to noise ratio of my cell phone was. After plugging in my Senheissers to my HP HDX 16t, I was wowed by the sound quality of it, and decided to get a higher class MP3 player. I decided on a Sansa Fuze because it could play FLAC, but the performance on it sucked since it would lag horribly between songs, so I went back to my 2nd gen shuffle. And now I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, which I love, and it matches/surpasses the sound quality of my laptop, except there's no random noise from all the extra electrical circuitry in a laptop.

I'm no audiophile, but I do love great quality music, and the iPod Touch delivers in my opinion.
But Bluetooth is more likely to cause cancer than a cell phone. Bluetooth, and WiFi for that matter, operates in the 2.4 GHz range which is already scarily close to the same frequency that microwave ovens use to heat your food (2.45 GHz).

Cell phones use frequencies ranging from 800 MHz to 1900 MHz/1.9 GHz.

So, if anything happens with this Maine thing, it would actually be worse if everybody became 24/7 Bluetooth headset users. A wired headset would be a better route if you want less powerful radiation going through your head.
Ahh, yes... Reading the source link would have benefited me. So they are just "preloading" all event pokemon. This seems more realistic as all they have to do is catch them in their respective games for it to count.
Umm... So mew? Celebi? Jirachi? Deoxys? Manaphy? Phione? Shaymin? Darkrai? Arceus? There is a way to catch all of them except Celebi without a cheating device, but still... Most of those are event only. How are they going to catch all 493 when it's impossible to do it ever since diamond and pearl came out. Heck once the series went to GBA, Celebi was uncapturable through legal means.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
