Yeah all those people who watch HD on their computer instead of their HDTV or burn to incredibly expensive media instead of external hard drives are going to be gutted.

As for 1GB of RAM: That's the standard and OS X gets on just fine with it, if you need to add more to use video editing apps then there's an option to do so or you can do it later and no longer need to dive about in the innards of the computer.

I mean at least try to be fair about the thing. I'm not a fan of how they showed the Dell with wires and the imac with none personally but don't knock the product if your criticism is not deserved.
itunes.co.uk is a bit different. In the UK you can't register a domain to 'cyber-squat' - just use it for a random search engine and not actually run a real site from it only to demand a lot of money from someone who wants to buy it. I believe the court determined in that instance that was what the owner was doing hence why Apple won.
The thing is that even though 600-220 doesn't equal all profit by a long way there's probably a healthy margin in there. But of course posts like this are even better for Apple cause the stock price will go up on the news meaning that they'll make even more money/.
Or the supply was very heavily constrained in game systems launches whereas Apple actually knew what they were doing and got enough units out to meet demand.
They'll sign. This is just Universal doing a bit of negotiating. CD sales are down 40%., do you really think any company can afford to not sell in the largest digital retailer and the third largest music retailer in America?
Actually there's one license fee per home whether you have 100 or 1 television tuners in there. Detector vans are a myth and would probably be inadmissible in court (we like due process over here unlike the US and it's internment camps (Gitmo, WW2)) and there's no implied consent if anyone comes a calling to search your home. They need to give you a warrant.
Nice comparison. Something people need to also understand is that the discounts and rebates engadget have provided are only the 'official' ones. If AT+T face losing a high-spending customer who's been with them 5+ years I'm sure they'll offer them a special discount but you can't include that kind of thing in a comparison like this because it's highly individualized and doesn't mean that the next person who comes along will get it.
couldn't you just get a lightweight work laptop and build your own gaming PC for the same money. As you're hardly going to be using the gaming feature on the move wouldn't that also give you exactly the same features?
In a post yesterday I commented that this would be far cheaper than an equivalent plan in the UK. Firstly I can now confirm that and also say that some ridiculous estimates about the iphone's plan were just plan silly (120 a month for the cheapest was one poster's guess - he should be eating humble pie right now).

This thing will sell like hotcakes with a plan as reasonable as that one. If the actual device holds up then now would be the time to buy that Apple stock.
This phone is cheap, at least by UK Standards which leads me to believe you Yanks are either a) spoilt or b) us Brits are being Royally ripped off (or both of course).

Let me explain. The current exchange rate between the pound sterling (that's the currency we have in Britain to the less geographically knowledgeable of you) and the dollar is 1:2. Before I dip into the maths I should say that in the Uk we get our phones free with a contract so contract prices are higher for a reason, but you do pay a small amount (say £50-£100 for the latest and greatest such as Apple's new baby). I'm going to be generous and assume this thing will be free.:

So the price of the phone is $600 or £300

Now in the Uk an unlimited voice plan for a month is around £25 ($50). Unlimited data plans are almost nonexistent but you'd be looking at easily double that - so £50 or $100. I'm going to err on the side of caution and reduce that figure by 10% to £45 or $90 This is compared to the $44 (upper limit) for a data plan in the US. I'm going to be extra generous to those Apple haters and up that figure by $10 to $55 (£27.50) for an all-in voice and data plan.

This means that in the UK the cost of the phone would be free (an assumption that could well be wrong and would in any case only be an option available only to new customers or those coming to the end of a contract)

So the total cost will be 24*45 = £1,080 or $2,160

While in the US:

600 + 24*55 = $1,920

Over two years and with a number of very generous assumptions the iphone works out as $240 cheaper than in the UK. Nobody in their right mind should be claiming this thing is overpriced.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
