I hope handsomekev never finds himself on an operating table with his surgeon looking at just a 1080p set to find the correct capillery to unblock in his retina. It might end up neither resolution matters when he ends up "one-eye kev". This monitor is for industrial applications and not so your spell/potion/whatever icons look prettier. More resolution, more accuracy. For more info see: http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2006/february1/med-simulate-020106.html or http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1723427.stm
The Samsung 244T is more impressive and runs about $850. Just don't buy it from Notebookforless.Cancelled the order within a few minutes of placing it because I felt something was wrong almost immediately. The confirmation e-mail was so generic it caused me concern-I buy A LOT of electronics online so I have seen many. I was correct. That was the last e-mail I received for a week. No response to two cancellation requests until someone replied the item had been shipped already despite no e-mail confirming a shipment or tracking number. Of course the monitor ended up requiring service from the manufacturer-DOA. I have purchased over 20K worth of electronics in the last couple of years and this is the first time I felt obliged to warn people about a company. I would not recommend this merchant-I would much rather pay more and get better service including timely responses, shipping confirmation and tracking information and most importantly products that work.
Redsox:Considering the actual Redsox just paid over 50 million to speak to a pitcher I can understand how you don't care for money.
My point was clear-I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A PROJECT! BUT if you estimate the hourly cost of a capable, qualified technician for the 60-80(which is it? 20 hours is a big difference) hours this project took to complete you are in the thousands. Every college student with a rotozip and a light bulb should understand this is more difficult than it seems. It could take a novice twice as long even with the great directions.
I commend Mr. O'Brien but after years of working on DIY projects I hate hearing of projects that are started and then given up on because people don't realize the commitment it takes. I am sure even Will thought to himself: "Why did I start this?" at some point. In any case Kudos.
7 parts and still noone has added the cost of hours spent working, researching, testing or tools necessary in a dollar amount. I know it's a project but even projects should be cost effective. People build their own custom PCs to save $$$$. This should be no different. $850 plus the ACTUAL cost (60 to 80 hours multiplied by $?/hour )of hours is not cost-effective.
I'm waiting for a price drop on principle alone. I've purchased thousands of dollars of a/v and computer stuff in the last year but can't bring myself to pay the original price on the Premium 360 because I think stand alone game consoles are overpriced--value wise. For the price of a better video card and some extra RAM you can match the 360 or PS3 closely enough to think twice about making the initial investment in the console (remember, not everyone has an HD capable TV, some people are putting their consoles on old ass TVs so PC games are the closest they can get to HD quality pictures). I know they take a loss on the equipment but I also know I went through $200 worth of controllers (wireless, s-type, 3rd party, etc.) for my regular XBox so I'm sure they'll make up for it in the long run. Just add up what it takes to enjoy the 360 for a year (live account, controllers, games-I buy, I don't rent) and you have a break-even situation.
Come'on Bill, you saved enough $$$ on lawyers by making a deal with your main competition: MikeRoweSoft, that you can drop the price right now. My MCE equipped comp and Toshiba Gigabeat S are waiting.
Hey, hannibalwhatever-most people were cutting edge with 1080i up until two months ago. Why trade in a 1080i set if it has one thousand and eighty lines. They usually still do progressive at the 480p level and some do 720p--1080p has only recently become available. Sony should be going forward not backwards. But it doesn't surprise me since they try to force everyone to use what they make instead of giving consumers choices. When you pick up your check at Sony Corp for trashing anything non-Sony in blogs you should trade in your Sony branded kneepads for a better set of rabbit-ear antennas. "The truth shall set you free", jerk.
John is correct. Not everyone has the kind of money it takes to buy this stuff. In fact, I refuse to buy the 360 until the price drops. Particularly because I don't want to buy the Core system. Even though I can afford it now I think it's still a sick price. There's no way I'm paying PS3 kind of money-it's disgusting. First and foremost it's a video game machine. If people want to buy a machine that just plays games they shouldn't have to buy everything else. Some people do live on budgets. In addition, (don't seek me out to hurt me now) these machines are not necessary in people's lives. Consoles are approaching PC prices (surpassing them in some cases). Can you imagine the looks on moms' faces across the country when they see the price tag for the first time? They will all turn to the Nintendo section of the store and go "Wouldn't you rather have this one?" If I had a kid I'd definately buy a new computer or TV with hdmi upconverting dvd player before buying these consoles.
Sure there are a lot of older gamers now but how many of them bought HDMI equipped DVD players when they were still $250? How many bought DVHS? Almost everyone waits until cheaper brands develop. When Blue Ray players start getting manufactured by Sansui, RCA, and other Walmart brands we can talk about real penetration-shit, Sony can't even make enough for the people who want to spend all that money now. I'm not saying BluRay will go the way of Betamax, minidisc and UMD but these technologies have to get cheaper.
The MS approach is more flexible and having choices helps consumers. If Sony wants to help consumers tell them to retract their lawsuits against LikSang and stop their hyperbole about the 360. Sony helping consumers-a big NO-helping themselves to free publicity and keeping the buzz going during the launch cycle-a fat nasty yes.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
