"Aló se dice en todos los países..."
^ you're right, I just put in a silent 'H' without thinking that most people wouldn't know it was silent...

Yeah, you're probably right Pipex... I have a tendency to read into everything too much, ha. All those deconstructionist college professors are to blame... I love marketing, and try to get into the heads of the people that made the ads. If I were making ads, I would put in nods (whether obvious or hidden) to all different possible market segments to hopefully subconsciously connect with them, making the product more relevant to them... (And I wasn't really meaning to say that a Nazi figure would help increase sales, but that a "more respected than most" German general would have more meaning when shown to a country with a connection to Germany than in the US, where the image would be seen as a generic Zombie Nazi to ~98% of the population.) Yep, I read into everything too much...
I'm from Chile (not there this instant, but born/grew up there)... Someone earlier mentioned that a lot of Germans went to Chile after WW2 was over, and they are right. A large German influence is seen all over the country, from food to random cultural things. There are even certain towns in the southern part of Chile that have been built by German settlers that are even architecturally German. Also, many of these settlers were very rich compared to a normal Chilean citizen... Ex: to this day, when you answer a phone in Chile you say the German word for hello, "halo", because they were the first people that could afford to have them installed...

Many private schools throughout the country were started by Germans to offer education better than the mediocore government-run ones. It's not hard to imagine that a school run by Germans would teach at least a little bit of German history... While I obviously don't agree with the Nazis in any way, each culture has different selective memories that they choose to emphasize. (ex: the American cultural perspective puts a huge focus on making Germans seem like inhumane demons. And, for some odd reason, the US education system doesn't like to talk about the countless Japanese-Americans that the scared US government kidnapped and put into torture/death camps here on our own shores...)

So, in conclusion, the people in Chile that have money enough to buy an expensive luxury item like a PS3 would likely have a close or at least distant familial connection to Germany and were also probably educated with some semblance of German history being taught...

So, from a marketing standpoint, it's a pretty decent ad...

The gaming "scene" at my school (University of Virginia) is basically non-existent... You never hear people talking about or mentioning games (well, besides the very rare overheard Madden comment) and I've seen a grand total of 2 people playing portable games (2 DS and 0 PSP sightings IN THREE YEARS)
And here I thought I could't be any more excited for Spore... Brian Eno is amazing (download and listen to "Music for Airports" if you don't believe me)... It's about time that videogame music was actually taken seriously instead of tacked on as an afterthought...
Screw the PS3, Wii, and 360... I want the Phantom gaming console... lol

That P!nk Limited Edition PSP is probably the trashiest product I have ever seen in my life... This completely proves that PSP is all about the high-quality games not the crappy media-player functions, right?
The PS9 commercial was amazing... The only way I think I'll buy another Sony console is if the actual PS9 comes out (too bad Sony'll be out of business by then)
bathrooms at Disney World have had extremely fast hand dryers for a few years. They "dimple" the skin and dry your hands in about 3 seconds... I don't know how fast they are, but they're pretty fun to use...
I sadly can't afford an HDTV right now. But I do download and watch HD-quality shows on my PC, that sorta counts...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
