little known fact, but the japanese actually do still use giant vcrs the size of breadboxes.
This turd was such a stinker, and DirecTV's denial so profound, they managed to convert me from a loyal customer into a Comcast subscriber. I'll spend the coin on a Tivo Series 3, since it actually works.
loop, not recursion
...but from the specs it seems that the video portion is only currently supporting up to 1024 x> 768 (XGA) output via composite or S-video connections.

Wow, that would be super cool, if ntsc did 1024x768, in some bizzarro alternate universe. But here in this one, it can't. Good reporting!
Wow, way to fact-check your figures. If you're going to tell us what resolution HDV is, you might want to bother checking it first.
You're giving DirecTV way too much credit. All their "ViiV" announcments were for playing _computer_ media on their _DVR_. No HTPC integration there, and no hope at all on the horizon for a DirecTV tuner-on-a-card for HTPCs.

In fact, the software that allows a DirecTV DVR to be a "ViiV-enabled media adapter" is still in beta, doesn't work very well, and last I checked, not able to play video at all- just JPEG slideshows.
I can't wait for a disgruntled engineer working on this project to send one of the robots to his ex-wife's house
Boy, and I was almost beginning to seriously consider shelling out the six bazillion sheckles they want for a Series 3. They can rot in hell.
(Insert "crash" double entendre here.)
Oh. I nearly forgot. The only place to get any information on what the heck is going on with this clunker is a web forum where the "moderator" is a shill for DirecTV who toes their company line in exchange for free hardware and early access to software releases and release notes. What a pathetic random to sell your soul for.

If you dare disagree with him and his claim that the HR20 is the best consumer electronic device ever, he'll just ban you. Can't be scaring away new customers with all this angry talk!

Why should we put up with this third-person heresay masquerading as corporate communication? Why is it the best source of information on our DirecTV service isnt a DirecTV forum, or their CSRs, but some hokey web forum run by a buch of despotic halfwits?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
