TUAW Interview: Rolando's Simon Oliver is ready for release {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Dec 18th 2008 12:46AM I can't wait to try Rolando - awaiting some reviews first.
Now...when is Blizzard going to create an iPhone-ized Starcraft? After playing Fieldrunners for many, many hours, I can't help but think how great a slightly scaled-down version of Starcraft (with online multiplayer) would be!
Gibson fires Guitar Hero lawsuit at Wal-Mart, other retailers {Engadget}
Mar 21st 2008 12:24PM Any company that uses silly patents as sledgehammers deserve to be boycotted.
The patent is ridiculous, as is the lawsuit. Gibson deserves our derision. Not our business.
Nintendo and MTV film helpful reminder: the Wii Wheel does absolutely nothing {Engadget}
Mar 19th 2008 11:45PM Actually I have a Wii. I will be happy to play Smash Brothers with you and beat you down while you use the Wiimote." - stinkweed
Thanks, but I use a Wavebird for Smash Brothers. Yes, the Wavebird is better than the Wiimote for that type of game. But guess what? The Wavebird is also a better controller than what the PS3 or 360 have. I'll take my Wavebird/Wiimote combo any day over what MS and Sony have to offer.
"FPS games on the WII still haven't evolved much beyond Duckhunt."
Huh??? You haven't played Metroid Prime 3??? The Wiimote is the future of FPS gaming. Mark my words, "Me Too" Microsoft will have a Wiimote-like device out for the 360 within 2 years. And you'll be raving about how it will change gaming.
"The 360 also had 10 games in their latest top 25 list. The Wii had 1."
So I guess Microsoft has nothing to worry about.
"Also don't forget that both Sony and MS have media strategies the go well beyond button mashing mini games."
Strategies that include losing boatloads of money on their consoles (including warranty repairs) hoping to *someday* recoup a couple of bucks before they have to release yet another new console?
Yeah, great plan.
And media strategies that include costly external video disc drives doomed to extinction (HD-DVD)?
Let's check back with each other in 3 years and see how things turned out.
Nintendo and MTV film helpful reminder: the Wii Wheel does absolutely nothing {Engadget}
Mar 19th 2008 5:08PM "The gimmick of the controls has worn off and 1st party titles play better with Gamecube controllers." - stinkweed
Wii Sports plays better with Gamecube controllers???
"second and third gen titles from Sony and MS are going to spell real problems for the Wii longevity"
Blah blah PS3 blah 360 blah destroy Nintendo blah blah blah.
We've been hearing about how Tweedle Dee (Microsoft) and Tweedle Dumb (Sony) are going to clean Nintendo's clock since, oh, before launch day 16 MONTHS AGO. Yet Nintendo dominates, and even grows stronger. Now you're praying that 2nd or 3rd gen titles do the job where 1st gen titles couldn't? Cling to that hope, if you must.
But how about we call off the Nintendo death watch for now, hmm?
"Of course that is just my opinion and I could be wrong."
Why, yes you are.
New York '08 Preview: Ford featuring crash-tested Taurus {Autoblog}
Mar 18th 2008 11:18AM What Taurus? All I see is a last-gen Passat here...
North American Nokia N95 8GB now available {Engadget}
Mar 6th 2008 5:58PM This Nokia, and frankly ever other cell phone out there, looks even more archaic today after the Apple iPhone SDK presentation than it did yesterday. And at $800? Please.
Jobs reassures Apple investors {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jan 29th 2008 12:49AM Mac sales continue to accelerate.
Apple retail stores are a smash success.
AppleTV is finally a viable purchase - and the online video market is wide open.
Nothing is close to dislodging the iPod from its lofty perch.
And the iPhone is just starting its assault on the *huge* cell phone market. Not only is Apple making money on each iPhone sold, but it's making money from monthly AT&T calling plans. Top that, Nokia.
Apple's future is huge. The big drop in stock value is disappointing (and stressful), but I've no doubt we'll all look back at it in amusement in a year, and two, and beyond. Only Steve's arrogance could ruin things now, but I think he's learned a lot over the years (so how about that mid-range tower now, Steve?)
This could very well be a stock I can retire on in 20 years. Maybe even 10. :)
Fraggles and Farscape come to iTunes! {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jan 28th 2008 10:57PM I never could get into Farscape, though I tried.
Loved Firefly, love Battlestar Galactica, but Farscape, meh.
Get BSG back on iTunes and I'll be happy. Give me the option of HD - I'll be ecstatic.
Wall Street to AAPL: Get bent {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jan 23rd 2008 10:30AM Owning Apple stock takes an iron stomach. Which I don't have, but I own AAPL anyway. It's not fun to be down 35% over the last couple of weeks.
Haven't investors learned yet that Apple ALWAYS guides conservatively? Idiots.
If I had cash on hand, I'd buy more right now.
NBC's Zucker hints at return to iTunes? {Engadget}
Jan 21st 2008 2:14AM FYI, watching shows on the computer via some annoying Web interface surrounded by ads sucks. Period. The sooner the networks realize this, the better off we'll all be. I didn't buy a home theater system and a nice sofa so I can sit in my desk chair and watch shows on my computer.
Stop supporting this model so the networks will stop pushing it.
Hulu needs to fade away. Pronto.
