And then they compare wii target audiences with ps3 target audiences...
Do me a favor when you talk about Europe, put the price in Euros and not in pounds? Anyway, here in France the PS3 is still 599 euros (Fnac). Given the favorable euro to dollar rate right now, I could go to the US and buy a PS3 for only 362 euros (499$)! That is a pretty large margin.
check out this article on some interesting speculations for the PS3 high price point...

not many showed up at sonys boat, the FNAC event only had 4 or 5 people....?
PSP is a bit of a paradox. Compared to DS it appeals to the older crowd. But, these are the people who also have less time to play games and if they want to play games, they can afford a console. There is just less market for PSP.
sheppy props for that comment, I think you nailed that one.
another strategy would be to demand that more games are made that appeal to women...
People that own a PS2 are more likely to buy a PS3 than another console out there. Why? Because they want to be able to keep playing the games they already have. The PS2 is currently outselling all other consoles, which means that there are shitloads of people who are potential future PS3 owners. But, Sony decided that all these PS2 owners are not to be lured into buying a PS3, because PS3 is not backward compatible with PS2. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot....
With the ps2 still selling like hot cakes, all those new ps2 owners are potential future ps3 owners, given that they will be able to play their ps2 library on the ps3. It seems that by limiting ps2 backward compatibility, Sony is excluding all these new ps2 owners from their userbase. Stupid.
Dutch political decisions are meaningless on an international scale. To compensate they make outrageous decisions on a local scale to get noticed internationally.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
