Yeah, so if you look under the "Files and Folders" heading, there should be an item called "Disk Item • Rename Selected Items". I couldn't remember the exact name in my first post, hence the "..." sorry for any confusion.
You don't need to know how to use automator at all! Go to www.macosxautomation.com and go to the 'services' menu, then the 'download' menu, then download the "finder services" pack and install the pkg. Then go to the 'services' pref pane (Keyboard -> keyboard shortcuts) and make sure the item called ".... rename selected items" is ticked. Now when you select some finder items, right click and go to the services section and you will see this option. You get a little menu with loads of options. Maybe not quite as many as this app, but far more than I've ever needed.
Easy and Free!
(10.6 only I think)
Yup, haven't found a way to reverse it yet, if there is one. Should definitely be an option even if they don't want a 'preferences' menu.
Windows messenger had that option for goodness' sake, how can "the world's most advanced operating system" not?
If you're going to use stacks as an app launcher, when you click on the stack and then start typing, why not use spotlight or quicksilver? That way your hands stay on the keyboard and you don't have to swap between keyboard and mouse.

Another feature I like is that if you have a folder selected in column view and press cmd-a it will select all the folders and files in that folder's containing folder, rather than all the things inside the folder itself.
I'm sorry, that was the ISS, not the shuttle.
The Russian guys up there opened the Eurovision song contest, you could clearly see they had a Windows XP system running. Hope they didn't get any space viruses!

"It looks like you're trying to fix Hubble, would you like some help with that?"
n.b. from my count, 44 of the top 50 tracks are at £0.29 the rest at £0.59 - no more expensive, if not cheaper than iTunes.
I don't know about in the US, but in the UK Amazon MP3 has started selling their top 10 tracks in various genres at £0.29 each - they're £0.99 on iTunes! If this doesn't make people switch to Amazon, I don't know what will.
Who cares what it looks like? My desktop tower sits under the desk out the way, so I only see it when I put in a CD. Truth is, most people don't need a lot of power, and with 320GB and a DVD burner, this would satisfy most families needs - plenty of room for photos, music, home movies and work files. I've had the same e-machines desktop for about 6 years, with no failures or problems with the hardware of any kind - I think they're a great way to go for people on a tight budget.
Must be annoying when you don't get the 8-cell battery - you get a nice flap of leather at the bottom!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
