I have had Vista installed since last year on an older Pentium 4 Dell (2G RAM) in a dual boot situation with XP, and it has run just fine. It was mainly just to check it out, and I still am using XP more regularly.
SP1 appeared last evening in my Windows Update, but failed right at the end of installation (hung up on 100% for like 15 minutes, then started reverting the changes).
Not surprised at that, since the RC1 did exactly the same thing during several attempts, but unlike the clean, problem free auto-uninstalls with the release candidate, SP1 didn't uninstall cleanly last night and screwed up my Windows Boot Manager somehow--I get a black screen of death saying something about a missing peripheral and a status code of 0xC00000e9.
I'm pretty sure I know what to do to fix it (my project for this evening), but it is still a PITA, and I'm mildly curious why the RC1 uninstalled cleanly but this did not. There's been no changes to the software or peripherals on the PC since the RC1 failures.
This is similar to Mazda's SmartKey (AKE) system, including the manual key as part of the fob--my car manual has a whole list of gotcha's, including keeping the SmartKey away from PCs, routers, cellphones, etc etc etc. The only thing I notice is that my cellphone battery life is lower if I keep the fob and the phone in close proximity for too long.
I don't think this is that silly an idea---I find it an interesting possibility for the rear speakers in a home theater system (depending on quality, of course). One less thing cluttering up your living room (avoiding having both speakers and floor lamps).
That incessant chattering would drive me mad. This bot is actually like a bad date...always babbling on about something in an inane manner, full of non-sequitars, and always demanding to be paid attention to. Its almost as much work as just having a child of your own....
Hmmm, I wonder if I'd get arrested if I stuck a sticker on my privates that said "Hi There!" that would show up in such a scan?
I can't wait for this to be put into usage and hearing about all the bogus lawsuits claiming that this caused someone's cancer or other medical condition.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
