UGA is obviously a more comprehensive university than GT, but Tech's better academic reputation comes because of its lack of "fluff." Students can receive an excellent education at the University, and its professional/graduate schools are top-notch. The "problem," though, is that students can coast through UGA... much easier than they could through Tech, anyways. You're not going to see Georgia Tech on a list like "Schools Where Students Rarely Study" any time soon. When it comes to academics, Tech is tougher, and--whether or not tougher really does mean better--that's why GT is often called better.
