F1 teams play musical engines as Cosworth emerges the favorite for 2010 {Autoblog}

Oct 22nd 2009 7:47AM Presumably that's not a picture of the actual Cosworth F1 engine or else the FIA started allowing turbocharging in F1 without telling me.

Are some Apple Time Capsules locking themselves up for good? {Engadget}

Oct 7th 2009 8:18AM My TC died after 18 months. Had it replaced for free buy buying applecare for a recently purchased MacBook. Actually, the old one was a 500GB model, the replacement was a 1TB model, it will be covered under applecare for the next 3 years.

PPG study says silver continues nine-year reign as most popular auto paint color {Autoblog}

Oct 3rd 2009 11:20AM Purple! Very bold - good on you. Given that you drive a Polo and that it's purple, I'd venture to say you are not in the USA. Here in the states, the color palettes of euro automakers are far more restrained that what I've seen in Europe.

Picking a car model at random, the VW CC Luxury, here is the entire choice of colors on the VW USA web site:

moca brown metallic
shadow blue metallic (very dark)
deep black
island grey metallic
light brown metallic
iron grey metallic
reflex silver metallic
white gold metallic
candy white

Is that pathetic or what? No reds. No greens. Only one blue, and it is pretty dark. In fact, the one blue color is the only "color" that I would actually consider a color.

Pathetic.

PPG study says silver continues nine-year reign as most popular auto paint color {Autoblog}

Oct 2nd 2009 11:35AM Apparently we are in violent agreement. My Boxster is Guards red with black interior and my S4 is Sprint Blue. I know about Tequiment paint-to-order option, which is great. I was just speaking to the "standard" colors that you find in the brochure and what the dealers choose to order and put on their lot. Porsche isn't the worst offender -- also look at VW, Audi, BMW. They all have lousy color selections. I guess as long as 80% of the car buyers are happy with white/black/grey/silver, that's what they'll keep making. Sorry for ranting, but it's a pet peeve of mine.

Oct 2nd 2009 10:43AM Is silver really a color? Ditto for black, white and grey.

I get really pissed off when I go to (say) the Porsche dealer and they have eight cars out front in the following colors: black, silver, a different silver, white, black, grey, a different grey, guards red.

Well at least they had one in color.

Please take me back to the 70s when Porsche really had colors: lime green, bright blue, orange, yellow, red....

Pandora comes to Android, world's networks that much closer to buckling {Engadget}

Sep 10th 2009 12:04PM It appears that it is no longer in the Android marketplace (search for "pandora" yields nothing). My continued attempts at downloading the app I previously found in a search yield "download unsuccessful". Going to pandora.com from the android yields a nice big button that says "download pandora". Clicking on it yields an error: "There are no matches in the Android Market for the search: pname: com.pandora.android"

What's up pandora? Does this currently work for anyone else?

Sony goes in a cheaper direction with wireless XBR10 BRAVIA LCDs {Engadget}

Sep 10th 2009 7:16AM Dear Sony,

Please call me back when you don't reduce picture quality of the XBR series trying to make it thin. Please give us local-dimming LED back again.

Video: Slim, wireless, LED-backlit Sony ZX5 LCDs prepped for November release {Engadget}

Sep 7th 2009 8:04AM Bah! Who cares about thin? If it's 16mm or 32mm or even 64mm -- I don't care.

I'd rather have better images than thin screens. Why oh why would you go from localized dimming triluminous LED to edge-lit LED?

Please optimize for performance and not thinness. If this is all you got, Sony, you can find me over at the Samsung booth.

Sep 5th 2009 7:45AM An accurate optical viewfinder.

A flash would be nice, but the lack of a viewfinder is what keeps me from buying it.

Rumormill: VW to axe Porsche Cayenne and Panamera after merger {Autoblog}

Sep 1st 2009 1:32PM Porsche was the last independent auto maker that concentrated on performance vehicles (though some might argue about Cayenne).

It is very sad to see them devoured by corporate masters. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big VW fan and I especially like VW performance cars like the R32 and the Scirocco.

But what I don't want to see is some Golf-based 2-seater with a Porsche logo. That would really be a stake in the heart.
