Not only that - the thing EXPLODED. Get it - explosion. By definition, that would be a pretty violent incendiary event, not just a trickle of flames up a curtain. It would cause a lot of chaos, I'm sure. Think about how startling a firecracker is, or a misfiring car, if you're not expecting it. Now imagine your computer (here it comes!) EXPLODING. Did you guys read about the Korean guy whose cell phone battery exploded on a work site and killed him? His supervisor pulled the melted burning lump out of his chest pocket (well, now they're saying something else happened too, but still - crazy).
I would call or e-mail customer service and mention this problem. That's how they decide whether to fix a problem or not, the volume of customer complaints.
Laser TV, all the way - I can't wait! Yes, I know about Arasor's IPO debacle, but that doesn't diminish the fact that the market for larger sets and projecters will be OWNED by Laser Displays in the not-too-distant future. The Novalux displays had a great showing at CES...
Nice to see an MS employee finally found this review and felt it necessary to post here!

Jake, if you're not a shill, then you might consider getting a job as one! What a laugh!

There is NO excuse for a MUCH larger company with so much time spent in development to come out with a clearly inferior product. The wave of returns has already started, too. My dad works as a manager for an electronics super store I won't name, and they're already getting ~40% of these things back - 40%! Retailers will be quick to pass these things up with that kind of return rate.

No, a 1st release shouldn't be this buggy when they've had so much time, and so many competitors to evaluate. Seems like the software interface is almost as bad as Sony's FAILED approach with NetMD and the SonicStage nightmare(Sony later admitted they had completely screwed up by not offering support for formats other than their own proprietary ATRAC compression format - WMA or PlaysForSure, anyone?). M$ will join Sony in the back, when by all external appearances you would think they of all companies have the resources to do MUCH better.

Jake, how's the weather in Redmond?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
