Tobruk,

You have to keep in mind the purpose of products like the Vado is capturing small (short) video clips and then sharing then on-line via the USB connection to YouTube, Vimeo, PhotoBucket. I bet 98% of users will never fill up the 8GB of memory before they upload or back-up to their computer.

If you plan on an extended vacation then you should dfinitely get a camera with extra battery packs, tapes or memory media that are interchangeable or expandable and whatever you'll need. I would prefer not to have to keep track of all that extra crap and have a simple device that I know I'll never max out the memory on.

I am glad it does not have the SD slot, I don't think its necessary when you have a generous amount of built-in memory.
@ Michael K,

The lack of Mac support is only for the built-in software.

I understand that the camera will connect to a Mac and allow you to download the video for editing or upload.

A friend at a local computer shop tells me its going to be a new ExpressCard 34 X-Fi soundcard. Apparently, Creative was showing the tech at a distributor show when my friend saw it a few weeks back. He said the picture looks like the part of the card with headphone out and mic-in ports that is about an inch out from the edge of the laptop.

The cool thing is that it has a built-in wireless transmitter so you can send audio files to transmitters around your home from the laptop. That sounds really cool (no pun intended)!

With the number of laptops being sold it only makes sense to update their one and only ExpressCard offering and give it more functionality.

I imagine its a condensed form of their Xmod wireless system in an ExpressCard format.

I would rather win one than buy one!
I think they're competing with those high-priced noise-canceling headphones from a company that rhymes with hose.

The are NOT intended for DJs, more so the traveling public aboard loud aircraft who want nice comfortable earcups to block out the screaming babies and the guy in the row behind you who is listening to music on his cellphone so everyone can hear him.
Two of those docks, the lower priced ones are already available at Fry's Electronics and also the PMP.
I want to get rid of my old Canon PowerShot S30 digicam (4 years old), Nokia 6010 (free one, 2.5 years old) and have a useful organizer. :)
I don't think the launch is going to be all that big. The hype has been HUGE, yet the launch won't be all that big. So far, none of the photos I've seen on-line seem to show more than a few people in line, except maybe in NY and San Fran.
This is available at Fry's under the Cambridge Soundworks name brand. It was $200.

I saw it last week and it sounded Damn GOOD! Better than 95 of the craptastic iPod docks I heard when testing with my 5G.
Three hours to download from Walmart?

haha! Is the NYTimes using dial-up? I downloaded Superman returns from Walmart in under 30 minutes!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
