All of you people on Psystar's side need to realize something Mac OS X is Apple's ball if Apple decides they don't want to share it, it is well with in there rights not to, and others need to respect that and move on to some one who will share. Bottom line Apple made it Apple owns it and is under no obligation to let other companies sell it as their own, that is called stealing! Just because Microsoft choose to license their OS to others doesn't mean everyone has to. Also you people saying that the way you get the OS from Microsoft and the hardware from someone else is pushing tech forward are really backwards. Fact is most of the time it is Apple and their OS pushing tech forward with their hardware tied to the OS they make. For god sakes we would still be using beige boxes and floppy disks if the rest of the PC industry had their way.
I take it you are being sarcastic, cause there is no way anyone could take that statement seriously.
I wasn't referencing Verizon cell phones specifically, I was just making a blanket statement that a lot of people have smart phones now, weather it be on the Verizon network or any other network, and that fact alone makes this "Hub" product kind of pointless. A smart phone already does 100% of what this does and is portable unlike the "Hub". But I do agree with you Verizon's cell phone selection does suck!
let's face it does anyone really want, or have a need for this item?????? It really is a product looking for a reason...... I mean either people already have a computer and can do everything and more than this thing does, or they have a cell phone like an iPhone that does more and is portable to boot, why would I buy this??? I agree with other posters, this is a product that would have been great 8 or 9 years ago but now it is pointless
Pre Web OS uses WebKit which is the same thing that Safari is based on which is the same thing the iPhone runs. Browsers using WebKit include: Safari, iPhones Web Browser, Omni Web, Palm Web OS, and few other smaller browsers. Internet Explorer, FireFox are not based on WebKit so unless you are going to be writing web apps strictly to the strictest of web standards without using any of the special features that are exclusive to WebKit then you will not be using Explorer or FireFox as they do not support the special features of WebKit. There are a few WebKit browsers for PC, and there is even talk of IE going WebKit based but that is to be seen. And if Pre is just offering up browser based Apps then they will be equal to the types of Web Apps that are available to iPhone, as Apple extended the iphone browser to support custom calls to add the ability to use iphone specific functions as well. This was the model apple was pushing in the beginning as well till people demanded more powerful Apps that web based apps just couldn't provide> So iPhone has native Apps now and I can only see Pre owners demanding the same if it is possible.
yeah.......... No thanks, I'll stick with my iPhone. It is gonna take a lot more than a gimmicky click touch screen to get me to go back to verizon. Maybe if they start selling the iPhone I will consider going back. Hands down Apple makes the best products on the market. From the look and feel of the devices to the UI and the complete integration of the software, they bring a lot to the table that is hard to beat.
No thanks, left Verizon for my iPhone, and this is not good enough or better to win me back. Sorry, just doesn't cut it.
I really don't like the Verizon tactics of locking you in to using all their services and blocking other apps from using stuff like GPS. They squeeze their customers for every last cent. It makes me sick. It probably will not have Wi-Fi cause Verizon already told BB they will not sell a phone on their network with Wi-Fi, so BB takes out the the offending technology and gives it a new model number or name and now it looks like it was just built that way, not that Verizon is the bad guy. It is funny how people will argue that, "that is just not a feature of that phone model." It is not a feature because Verizon doesn't want it to be a feature, not because BB built it that way. BB wants to make money and if Verizon won't sell their phone with Wi-Fi in it then they don't make money, so they change it so Verizon will sell it and yield to their demands. Carriers like Verizon are the single reason why the progression of the cell phone has been so slow here in America. I don't want to sound like an iPhone fanboy, but, up until the iPhone the carriers had nothing to worry about. Now it has them scrambling. The iPhone was the first phone in a long long time that truly moved the cell phone forward thanks to the fact that Apple had the back bone to stand up to these carriers and say look, "it is going to be our way or no way". We all know Verizon was offered first crack at the iPhone and screwed it up and stuck to their old ways of total control. Apple eventually went to At&t and they were willing to take the chance, to try something new. I am not saying At&t is perfect by any means but they took the chance. It was only after this that Verizon now states that it wants to open it's network and allow any phone and any app, still waiting to see it though. It will be interesting to see if Verizon has gotten past their old ways with this Black Berry!
hmmm..... everyone here is saying that the BB's that don't have Wi-Fi or other features on Verizon are being slammed by people saying that the phones being designed and for use on the Verizon Network don't have it to begin with..... But, there is a reason the BB's that come to Verizon don't have Wi-Fi, and that reason is because most people don't know that carriers like Verizon have a relationship with the handset makers, and they dictate to these handset makers what they will and will not accept in a handset on their network. So, to end the argument, YES, Verizon DOES NOT WANT PHONES WITH WI-FI ON THEIR NETWORK and to make sure of that they dictate to the handset makers what they will allow them to make for their network. The people arguing that Wi-Fi is simply not a feature of a specified phone on the Verizon network are correct, but only because Verizon already told BB that they would not support a phone with Wi-Fi so BB makes a change to the phone takes out Wi-Fi and gives it a new model number so Verizon will sell their phone. So REALLY Verizon is still the bad guy here. The reason to get more of your money. They rope you in to force you to use only their services and make it very difficult to do things without incurring a charge to do it. This is the same reason they block profiles in Bluetooth that would allow you to circumvent there network. Bottom line for Verizon is that they want you to have to do it through their network to get more money out of you for every little thing you may want to do. They block GPS so you have to use their App, and only their App has access to GPS. It is so underhanded it makes me sick.
If Microsoft made a product called Apple Zune yes they could possibly get away with it. Remember Apple Inc. is Apple's actual legal name and before that it was Apple Computer Inc. There is nothing stopping a company from naming a product with a generic term, if another company made a product that was similar in its function the company could still try to say they have rights to that name and that the product would cause consumer confusion suing on the way the product functions and any patents they may have on that product. If you remember Apple computer Inc. at times was fighting with Apple Records which was actually Apple Corps Ltd. They didn't have a problem with each other till Apple Computer started making music products.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
