iPhone 3G review {Engadget}

Jul 11th 2008 9:50AM Dear Patsy,

I see you have equated a frivolous number of iPhone stories to long-standing and complex social problems. I don't think I need to point out the hideousness of that analogy to you. Chief amongst those distinctions, however, is that you have a vested *right* to participate in the social system of which you are a part of. You have no vested *right* to consume from Engadget. They are a business, and will continue to placate and pander to the audience that contributes the most amount of money (obviously relative to the type and quality of work they wish to produce). Social change cannot be ignited by simply "leaving" and thus a more aggressive stance can be taken. A business model, on the other hand, is almost exclusively subservient to its audience, and thus taking your ball (and more importantly your eyeballs, as this traffic is what boosts Engadget's value to advertisers) and going home.

I guess what I'm saying is: GTFO.

Love,
Adam

OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner available for order July 4, shipping July 7 {Engadget}

Jul 2nd 2008 10:56AM I don't see EDGE listed on those device specs.

I see GPRS, and some nebulous reference to 2.6G, though I've never understood that to mean EDGE/EGPRS.

Can someone confirm 2.6G = EDGE. A cursory 'googling' of "GPRS 2.6G" only really brings up this article. Seems absurd to think a device wouldn't have EDGE in this day and age, but you never know...

Apr 15th 2008 12:38AM Don't mind me... I'm just here to say that the iPhone is ALWAYS the most feature rich phone EVER.

Uber-slim G4 Mouse slides away in your PCMCIA slot {Engadget}

May 7th 2007 3:57AM Sorry I guess our communication got mixed up.

Follow the link the in the story for the 120 GB Flash hard drive for the PCMIA slot, and then try and find that product, the one from Stealth Technologies.

In the comments section, someone claiming to be with the company denies that they have a product like that, and if you visit their website, there's nothing that corroborates the story. It's not been retracted, and worse it's included as a link in a current story (this one, about the product that does exist).

Uber-slim G4 Mouse slides away in your PCMCIA slot {Engadget}

May 7th 2007 2:59AM Um, aren't you linking to an article where the company expressly denies in your comment section that the product wasn't announced, and a quick visit to their website shows NO products, or even future products that fit the bill of a 120 GB PCMIA NAND-Flash hard drive??

That seems a little low-rent on the reporting side Engadget, I usually expect more from y'all; you're well respected blogger-journalists after all.

Zune gets limited edition Adult Swim version {Engadget}

Apr 26th 2007 9:23PM Ah Microsoft, it's always refreshing when they attempt to buy 'cool.'

It's a shame to see [adult swim] sell it to them like that, but I think they knew it wouldn't really effect ANYBODY, EVER.

iPhone to run $300-400 after contract? {Engadget}

Feb 17th 2007 2:41AM Gee Justin, lemme think...

Maybe it's because in the video game console arena there is NOTHING approaching the cost/feature-set of the PS3. Maybe because when the maker of said device, which is clearly a video game console, says it's not for video games or for gamers, it rings of disingenuousness.

Gee, maybe it has something to do with the fact that the cost of many smartphones is in the realm of other smartphones in the same area?

Lambasting the PS3 for costing $600 would only be closely analogous to lambasting the iPhone if it cost $800, almost $200 more than the nearest competition.

If I have to come back here to explain common sense to you again, I'm going to turn the website right around, and take everyone home. Where will summer vacation be then huh? You'll ruin it for everyone.

iPhone: does Cisco miss out due to prior art? {Engadget}

Jan 12th 2007 1:34PM Well arguments regarding the propriety of calling it 'prior art' aside, what really cooks my noodle is how ANY company ANYWHERE in ANY STRETCH of hemisphere has the balls to sue Apple over infringing the trademark they own, when said trademark is the slapping of a lowercase 'i' onto a relatively benign noun.

This is Apple's 'thing.' Now, granted, the way trademark laws work, it gets a bit sticky regarding enforcement and legitimacy, but in a normative (how they should be, not how they are) mechanism, trademark laws are designed to prevent any company from piggybacking the market dollars and ideas from another companys promotions. Isn't ANY company that slaps an 'i' and a colorful candy shell on product X attempt to violate the intentions of trademark law (if not the actual letter of the law itself)?

How Cisco has the BALLS to sue Apple over a trademark issue that Apple was in talks with them to acquire, when in fact, the 'iPhone' name is in DIRECT relationship to the same 'i' moniker that Apple has spent billions popularizing. Ooooh, don't forget my favorite part, the Cisco people are *ahem* 'surprised' that Apple released it for public viewing before the talks were concluded... Seriously. Macworld. It happens every year. Steve keynotes it every year. He's expected to turn water into wine EVERY YEAR. I'd be seriously concerned if I were a Cisco investor if the managment at Cisco was 'shocked' that Jobs demoed the iPhone at the ONE MAJOR TRADESHOW THEY HOST AND ATTEND EVERY YEAR. Of course, if that's the case, then Cisco is a bunch of liars. They are just completely lying at this point. And that's sad.
