I stand corrected, 2.4 but according to the specs, proprietary 2.4.
@Information Central

It runs at 56 ghz from what i understand. It's a very clear sound. It supports multizone amps as well, which allows for independant audio sources playing at the same time.
I'm going to get all of the 2-d shmups that have been released. I love me some 2d shootery goodness and games like Omega Five only heighten the nostalgia for classics like Thunderforce and Gradius.
I think they should just dump the entire concept. Mass production unfortunately treats the bespectacled masses rather poorly, creating products that don't work particularly well for them. The 2-3 movies I have seen in theaters were blurry, unfocused and simply not made with glasses in mind.Even having said that, it's a technology that is still in it's infancy at best and should not be used as a full on marketing ploy. I'll watch the non-3d version before watching the 3d version.
You know, I still cannot for the life of me comprehend people's mentalities on a pay-2-play service. Xbox Live has charged roughly $5 a month, less than what people will pay for a latte at Starbucks and idiots call it exorbitant. Sony hints at charging and the ungrateful masses that have been enjoying free online gaming from Sony piss and moan about being charged. If it was even $20 people would still piss and moan about it. I'm surprised Sony's waited this long. With proper funding, you get a better online experience, which Xbox Live has proven time and time again. Pay to play works. I won't pay for Sony, simply because my multiplayer games are almost exclusively 360, but this is a much needed attempt at paying for the insane costs of offering a free online service.
You know, with all the crap Engadget gives Geek Squad, the service exists for a reason. While people who read this blog are no doubt perfectly adept at setting up wireless networks, have you ever tried telling your 50 year old grandfather or grandmother how to set up a router? Or for that matter telling her how to set up and control her new tv and home theater system with the 4 remotes it all came with? Yeah. Not all of the customers out there are capable of understanding how it works. They can use it yes, but connect it all? Not the targets that Geek Squad services are for. And for the record I'm a Geek Squad home theater installer. I like to think I'm pretty good at my job.
You know, as a Canadian, I'm deeply offended that Joystiq would imply that as Canadians our only source of income is shoveling snow. We have many fine career opportunities and simply said, snow removal is only but one of many sources of employment. Many of us have to shovel snow for free along with working our own pitiful source of employment.
@TrueEddie

If you cut a hole for a power cable to go through the wall, you're going against fire code. It's illegal to run a power cable through the wall. If your kitchen burns down but leaves the home theater room intact, your insurance company will consider your claim, null and void. You need to get an electrician to put a power outlet behind your tv. Or if you do it yourself, a code friendly way of doing it. Just don't run the power cable through the wall. Also make sure you use in-wall rated cabling for hdmi and such.
@LandMineHare

That is a more than acceptable reason to mod an old style Xbox. Unfortunately you are in the vast, vast minority of the modders. Because of the existing media capabilities, there is no reason now to mod a 360 except for either a) a larger harddrive, or b) to avoid paying for games. A is understandable, but B is reprehensible.
Let's have all those affected bring their console in. If the only hardware change was to allow a larger harddrive, then get it back in business. However, if the system's been modded and everything else is stock, then there can be only one reason to mod their system. Piracy.

Let's face it. Would a pirate rather have his console shut down? Or face criminal charges regarding piracy? There's explicate warnings about copying software. There are penalties associated with said warnings. I say bring it on, and let Microsoft slam fines down on every modder that's doing it because they are too pathetic to pay for what people worked hard on.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
