I don't think the IPhone competes in the same market as umpc's, an umpc is a full fledged x86 computer running a full version of xp. I can see people with both an IPhone and a UMPC, be it very well off people.
Street lights do not seems like a great idea for LEDs, currently Mercury Vapor have the highest efficiency, their light also interferes the least with astronomy because it has very distinct frequencies.
I am sure that they use Rad-Hard processors and memory for their life support just like the space shuttle.
I can see this being used in cubical environments, have 4 monitors/keyboards/mice with only 1 actual computer.
I don't think I would ever hear the words "energy efficient FPGA" in the same sentence. FPGAs use power like it is going out of style normally.

Is that suppose to be above ambient cause otherwise that has to be a typo.
They have thermocouples which are similar to this. The main difference is this can have 30% efficiency compared to a thermocouple which is usually around 5%.
