Analysts: Macs will continue to take market share from PCs {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 27th 2008 9:31AM "They say that consumers are enjoying Apple's innovations, and that a strong product line lead by the iPod, iPhone, and the MacBook Air will continue to increase Apple's business and give them a bigger piece of the personal computing pie."

The iPod and iPhone have little to do with your decision to buy a PC or a Mac, so I think this statement is misleading at best. Further, the Macbook Air is not a smash hit, I've even heard of people returning them once the novelty wore off and they realized that it was too compromised to do real work on.

Solar iPhone? Probably not {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 30th 2008 1:51AM It's not so far-fetched.

The iPhone has a 3.7v, 1400mAh battery. This solar panel:

Which would fit on the back of the iPhone.

Apple lists the iPhone as having 8 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby. Let's be pessimistic and scale that back to 6 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby. That translates to current consumption of 175mA during talk and 7mA in standby. The solar panel delivers 60mA (albiet in full sunlight), but even if we assume 50% efficiency, it still will charge the iPhone during non-talk time. I wouldn't mind buying/using a clear plastic rear-facing holster that put the solar panel on the back of my iPhone facing the sun.

So it's not far-fetched, but if you keep your phone in the dark, it's admittedly less than practical.

iPhone on the Road: a substitute for paper boarding passes {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 23rd 2008 2:25AM Delta has the same service, but it's somewhat flawed. I checked in on my iPhone and displayed a boarding pass. While the Delta customer service reps in Boston knew nothing about it, the TSA *did* and let me through. However, by the time I got to the gate, I'd made a phone call and that was enough to expire the page from Safari's cache - and I was NOT able to get the boarding pass to display again. So I was stuck at the gate and had to get a paper boarding pass. The bar code on the boarding pass would NOT scan at Delta's kiosks.

Confirmed: iTunes 7.6 needed for some successful 1.1.3 upgrades {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 16th 2008 5:49PM Upgraded fine with 7.5 after I opened up some space. 350MB free on the iPhone was NOT enough to upgrade. Opened up 1.5g and it worked fine.

Dec 22nd 2007 12:42AM I was a loyal Treo user from the Treo 300 all the way to the 700P, and finally got tired of living with a poorly executed brilliant concept. Palm should have owned the smartphone market, but they simply couldn't deliver a product that ran right. How many phones in a row had completely borked Bluetooth? How many times a day/week did every Treo reboot? I finally decided to go to something else, and now I have an iPhone that doesn't have all those problems. It's like a breath of fresh air. Ebay, there's another Treo headed your way...

New York City to get Taxi 2.0, now with GPS tracking and TV {Engadget}

Dec 17th 2006 11:26AM You're even more ignorant; according to Wikipedia, in 2006 there were over 16,000 in the republic. Of course, according again to Wikipedia, there are 13,000 in New York City alone - something of a more formidable task, don't you think?

Then again, having ridden in taxis in both locations, I actually prefer those in London.
