I HIGHLY doubt this time around given a mid ranged price competitor
that is pretty close to the 280 for half the price that they're
seeing the same sales as with the 8800. Maybe in cards ordered by
retail outlets stores but that counts as inventory and not final
sales.. which has to be lower based simply on logic.
A similar competing product didn't exist with the 8800's release or
anytime soon there after. Then the 7800
ect series was used as midrange and it only got worse for AMD.. from
what I remember that is.. I didn't pay attention during the
7800 series. Basically utter domination by Nvidia
almost all around last time. Now they've got competition on
everything but extremely high end. Add a growing number of unemployed
teenagers this summer - some of whom buy your product - and
cyclical bottoming in all of tech stocks during summer time (due to a
decline in sales and thus profits during Q1 and Q2) and a typical
rise towards the end of the year and then you have yourself a
delicious decline in NVDA's stock.
If you own stock though.. I wouldn't worry too much... it should pop
based on panic selling after hours, I'd average down... but the best you'll probably see is 50-60% from this ($13).. and that's 5 months from now (overall economy sucks). I'm also just going to guess that you do own stock cause I'd only be tempted to call someone an idiot if
they said something that made me fear that I'm going to loose a bunch
more money than I already have. Unless, of course, they were doing it
to someone else who made perfectly valid argument ;-).
I'm marking this as a win for common sense over some random dude
spouting BS and flaming someone else on the internet (what?? on the internet?!?!?!?! :P). Unless
you have something to back yourself up... in that case I completely

You have a release of an early financial statement or something? Where the hell could you possible know the rate at which their 280's are selling when they've been out maybe a month.

I have to say on a decent pc (built in the last 2 years) vista with sp1 turns out to be pretty alright. Just would like all the tweaking ect. done for me.

Apr 19th 2008 4:52AM I'd rather support AMD just cause I know competition is good, about a 8 months - 1 year ago i probably wouldn't have said that based on their offerings.. they were pretty crappy. By now differences seem to be very minimal, so I think I'll support AMD just because competition = prices stay low like this and performance/innovation prospers. Everyone should really consider the long term view of buying from one or the other cause if AMD goes under, next time you want to upgrade I'll bet the price per performance goes up.

Apr 15th 2008 3:34AM Both companies? Dude blue jeans cables i got a (i think it was 3 years ago) 8' hdmi cable for freaking $30 + shipping. That's what my cousin who works at best buy gets dynex brand hdmi cables for (6').. and they give it to him at cost + 5%. I've ordered from them before, will order from them again, and plus you have the added satisfaction of him legally bitch slapping monster cable who overcharges a hell of alot.

what a dumb idea though. nbc will have lower ratings for real fans of the show cause they'll probably watch it by other means (torrents or otherwise) when it comes out on direct TV.... I think.
whahaa's post has a good point too. he might be right considering I don't think there's that many people that are hardcore fans of this show. Either way its an experiment that NBC clearly is doing on a show they feel is worth doing it with (due to low ratings to begin with). I don't know how clear the outcome will be cause of that (it not being that popular or good a show) cause you run the risk of some hardcore fans simply downloading the episodes and then if the audience doesn't expand in January you'll have somewhat lower ratings than the season before. Also unlike say Hero's the show doesn't exactly have the fan base that would keep up on the internet buzz, or has dedicated forums discussing episodes.
