How the iPhone might be sold unlocked {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 11th 2007 6:30PM Fuck you guys for taking money from those stupid mortgage interest rate pricks with their infuriating dancing shadows.

Live from the Steve Jobs Keynote -- "It's Showtime" {Engadget}

Sep 12th 2006 12:16PM Well, here's some interesting news. My friend just went to the apple store to get a nano re-rung and apparently right as they were re-ringing it the price rang up $50 less for the 2 gig. Thinking that was a little strange, the apple employee tried ringing up the 4 gig and saw the same price drop. Most interesting though was the fact that the 60 gig iPod was down a full $100 bucks, pretty much guarunteeing that a new high end ipod will be announced today. Exciting stuff.

Apple iPod Hi-Fi reviewed {Engadget}

Mar 4th 2006 11:09PM I think that everyone can be rest assured that if you do buy something from apple you're getting a high quality product. Whether or not you think their pricing is fair is your own deal, but given the success of almost every product launch they've had over the last 4 years I'd say that they're pricing their products nearly perfectly. (at least, their stock seems to tell that story)

It's hilarious to watch people bitch and moan about new Apple product release and then watch them go on to be raging successes. It's a good thing none of you actually work for a consumer electronics company since not only do you so readily trash new products but you completely underestimate their potential and scoff at how the consumer base is full of "rich idiots". To me it sounds like sour grapes. If you can't afford to buy higher end stuff I don't think it's fair to call people who can gullible.

The ipod HiFi is aimed at people who are successful enough to not bat an eye at a $300-$350 ipod docking solution that sounds better than average but not downright crazy as true audiophiles for whom which nothing compares to setups which involve $10,000 cabling. Apple filled a space here that nobody else was: a completely self-contained unit that sounds above average when compared to other sound docks, meaning, the power brick is integrated and the speakers are built into the unit. It reminds me a lot of the Bose Soundwave that they were pushing pretty hard on informercials a few years back that I think ran even higher than $350.

Watch the Hifi sell like crazy everybody.

In Defense of the Apple Rumor-mongering {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 1st 2006 7:33AM #11 hits every nail straight on its head. Since nobody has even listened to the iPod Hifi, then I find it hard to justify bashing it based on looks alone. I happen to think it looks quite elegant and minimalist in true Apple form when compared to Bose's or Klipsch's offerings. The portability is cool too, imaging being able to easily take it outside or onto the patio for a BBQ or an evening outside. Very cool idea in my opinion.

I think we can rest assured that although $99 seems steep for a leather case, there are plenty of other case manufacturers out there who are up around that price range for so called "luxury cases". Unless they're using the cheapest leather available, I'm sure that Apple has made this case out of materials that make it feel $99. The point is, it's obviously not aimed at the average consumer, since ipods come with freaking cases out of the box (albeit rather plain ones). It's aimed at the same people who will spend $150 on jeans without batting an eye, or $600 on a purse.

Also, I think PVR capability is overblown. I use an iMac 20" Duo as my TV, and believe that the download model of obtaining content is infinitely better than recording shows. For one, if I miss an entire season of a show, I don't have to wait for reruns to obtain episodes I missed. I can download entire back seasons. Also, and this is a fairly weak point but I think it merits some attention: PVRs allow you to obtain so much crap content that people rarely have enough time to watch it all. In fact, from what I've noticed, my buddies who own PVRs typically haven't got nearly enough time to keep up with all the different series they've chose to download on a regular basis. For me, I'm forced to be much more selective when getting content, and thus I spend a lot less time watching TV. Buy a freaking TiVo if you're so pissed about PVR not being built into the Mac Mini, it's free with a subscription now anyways. Keep in mind that adding a PVR to a Mac Mini not only would it make the box bigger because of the extra hardware needed, you would also be forced to attach X amount of external hard drives to it as well. It would be a complete diversion from idea of the clean Mac Mini.

As for TUAW, I'm surprised you're being so harsh to Apple. I think as a news source you need to be as unbiased as possible being careful not to swing too hard in any direction. To me, it seems your reaction to yesterdays product announcements were completely knee-jerk and unprofessional. You'll notice that the guys over at Engadget didn't bash Apple's new offerings straight out of the gate, and I believe I can trust their judgement given their past reporting and the fact that they were ACTUALLY THERE TO DEMO THE PRODUCTS. So please, a little professionalism.

iPod Hi-Fi brings music to the masses {Engadget}

Feb 28th 2006 5:24PM Wow, freak out people.

Nintendo DS Lite live shots! {Engadget}

Feb 8th 2006 4:43PM I don't know about you, but it looks kind of dirty? What's with the off-white color? On last picture on the bottom shows about 3 different shades of white for different parts of the device. Man I hope that gets fixed before they release this sucker.

Series 60 tips and tricks {Engadget}

Feb 6th 2006 10:06PM I have had palm phones, windows mobile smartphones, and generic plain old regular phones, but I only recently made the plunge into the Symbian world with the 6682. My initial impressions after a week's worth of using it is that I should have done this a long, long time ago. Overall, I find it to be the most intuitive of the three major smartphone OS' out there. It combines the application switching of windows with the stability and intuitiveness of Palm's offering. The games out for the 60 series phones are unrivaled thanks in large part to the late n-gage (it was good for something - getting good games for REAL phones). Prince of Persia - Warrior Within absolutely blows me away as far mobile gaming goes. It's hard to believe I can have a near console experience on my little phone.

Other apps I have found extremely useful are Profimail which is a great looking and versatile email client, sProfiles which turns my phone on silent for me automatically according to the schedule I set for it so that I don't have my phone go off in class because I forgot to mute it, iSync which allows me to sync basically everything you possibly can sync with a mac, including caller id pictures which blows me away. I spent about an hour taking photos of friends in my iPhoto collection and making caller id pics for them. It's sweet to have every single number in my phone accompanied by a picture.

Opera is the single best mobile web browser I've ever used, hands down. It makes surfing on a screen as small as the 6682's actually bearable. The apps I'm looking for and haven't found, however, are a more advanced todo manager and an internet radio client (for the BBC). If anyone knows any s60 apps that would fit the bill let me know.

I love my 6682 (and may consider jumping right into the N80 when it releases.)

Common Mistakes Made by New Mac Users {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 26th 2006 3:12PM This is the worst mistake you can make but as a new mac user this past summer I made it: changing your short name. This will effectively delete all your settings and everything you customized on your system and there's no way to get it back. This is a huge one.
