Blu-ray player prices dropped 12% in Q3, still in just 1.7% of US homes {Engadget HD}

Oct 15th 2008 10:19AM Amen, man. That sums up exactly how I feel about all these people fighting about whether it's going to fail or not. I'll enjoy it for as long as it's around and if it fails, hopefully we move onto something better. Why is this such a source of hostility for people? It's the same crap that goes on in the 360/PS3 fights...my format is better than yours! who cares!?!?

I'll enjoy mine, you enjoy yours...world keeps going 'round

Apple's Steve Jobs calls Blu-ray "a bag of hurt" {Engadget HD}

Oct 14th 2008 5:08PM I'd still like to hear the actual numbers for fees, but I think you misread the article. Apple didn't publicly confirm what you're talking about. I believe you're talking about media licensing, which isn't what Apple was referring to.

"It's great to watch the movies, but the licensing of the tech is so complex, we're waiting till things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace."

I think Apple is talking about licensing the technology (players/recorders), not the media...could be wrong.

Oct 14th 2008 5:03PM I, too, would like to know this. The fees are too much for even a company like Apple?

BDA unsurprisingly bullish for holiday season {Engadget HD}

Oct 13th 2008 4:01PM @mike,

Just FYI, a pregnancy term is generally 9 months, not 10 - 10 1/2 months...

World's largest LED screen coming to Dubai {Engadget HD}

Oct 9th 2008 8:59AM If it's anything like the other Dubai projects -and I'm sure it is- they don't care how much it costs, they just want it yesterday.

Blu-ray studios get graded, Sony Pictures comes out on top {Engadget HD}

Oct 8th 2008 4:37PM Since when are a C and F, for Fox and MGM respectively, considered high marks?

Sony's 25.5-inch VAIO VGC-RT150Y all-in-one reviewed: pricey, but good {Engadget}

Oct 8th 2008 11:28AM I must be missing something, because I don't see the similarity at all...are you being sarcastic?

Oct 8th 2008 10:42AM I would love to see where you shop. I know what you're trying to say, but you're pretty grossly over-exaggerating...

Hollywood hates fair use, sues over RealDVD {Engadget HD}

Oct 2nd 2008 12:20PM I agree with you, that would be a compelling replacement for DVD. However, I do have a couple of concerns with that model.

1.) What if I want to take my collection with me? Is it as simple as taking the STB with me (a'la vonage)?
2.) What if my friend who does not subscribe to this service wants to borrow a movie of mine (which actually happens quite often)? I'm left with no way to do that as I'm sure they wouldn't provide me a way to just burn a copy.
3.) Or likewise in the case of HDD failure, I lose everything I've downloaded and have to do it all again?

I'm not expecting you to answer these, but they're the things I think of when I imagine a digital download world. I know these are just my concerns, but I'm wondering if others agree. The studios and MPAA have a long way to go to earn my trust back after the music industry and RIAA destroyed it.
