I think their focus groups were toying with them.

"Why yes I would totally go check out a store called 'The Shack' for shopping purposes!"
I think "Apple IIi". Or I dunno, "Apple iII" for Beastie Boys fans?
I'll go out on a limb & say "marketing."
Neither link gives numbers, but for perspective: a Nintendo DS power supply's output is 5.2V, 450mA; that's 2.34W (peak).

You'll need to charge ~427 hours (almost 18 solid days) at that rate to use a kWh -- average cost per kWh in the US: $0.10.

So it's neat, a nice symbolic accessory & your $50 does support R&D for this type of thing-- but your direct benefits are small.
"It's just anecdotal, but I see lots more deer carcasses in Michigan where hunting is big than I do in other states with lots of deer, like Ohio and Minnesota."

Well it's an interesting idea, but with the news stories about increased deer populations after hunting restrictions and deer becoming suburban pests, the idea that hunters are scaring them onto the roads more seems unlikely.

"And hunting is what decimated the deer's predators to begin with."

OK, but, so what?

"I can't believe bear baiting is legal in Michigan. Talk about cruel."

I agree.
Yeah, I took a long road trip last weekend and had deer cross in front of me twice (on interstate) -- which is a record for me.

I don't hunt because it seems like it sucks, but to each their own & I would also encourage you hunters to go bag some deer.
Gonna pick up my guild & do a WoW drive by.
"Joybook" hee hee!
I think it's got a cool '80s thing going on, like an Atari 800 or Commodore +4.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
