no need to flash the rom to change the boot screens. just change the direct the corresponding registry value to a different filename. most things can be done in the registry without needing to flash the rom. :)
Ya know, they could've at least changed the order sequence of the colors. They're in the exact same color sequence as the Windows flag logo... just rotated 90 degrees clockwise.
The tremendous insecurity demonstrated by Apple fanboys is absolutely astounding. I cannot help but feel a bit apologetic for them as their only means of having any sort of social identity is through the possession and use of a more distinct-appearing machine in order to adopt the image manufactured for them by other minds. It is then no wonder Apple fanboys are always the first to sieze any opportunity that comes across to speak of their delusional self-proclaimed superiority with belittling words towards all others during even the most absurdly unrelated possible situations.

If simply by possessing such a product would associate me with such psychotic beings, then never again would I even consider its acquisition regardless of any potential usefulness that would have practically pertained to me (Apple notebooks in this particular case). For normal persons to be associated with such a group of individuals, a cold night spent nude swimming in an overflowing outhouse would be more appealing even if only by an extremely narrow margin. I would greatly advise the avoidance of both, however.
For that price, the HP Envy 13 is a better choice by FAR... although personally, I'd never spend that much on a laptop.
It looks like it works really well with the exception of when the guy was trying to rotate the photo Windows Photo Viewer. He needed to do at least a complete 90 degree turn gesture in order for it to rotate 90 degrees (no really?), but he wasn't doing that. Zooming and panning looked responsive. Maybe when trying to rotate, Microsoft could implement visual feedback to indicate how much you've rotated and snap back to the original orientation if you let go before rotating far enough.
forgot to mention... other than the whole touch screen gimmick, the dv3t is an AWESOME laptop.
Only practical use I can think of: while taking notes, there's a need to copy down a chart or graph that's done much quicker and easier using a touch screen than a touch pad or mouse.

Other than that, I'd say it's more of an easy sell to the consumer rather than providing much real-world benefit on traditional laptops, but students will appreciate it.
Apple is good at they want to do, but for the latest generation technology you're going to have to wait until they feel like putting it in (if ever) and where they want to. Did it really have to take THAT long to include an SD card slot? Not even an option for a Blu-ray drive yet? No ExpressCard slots except on the 17-inch (and even then it's a 34 and not 54)? Why no HDMI port? Still using last generation's video chip? There may be external solutions and adapters to all these (except the video card) but it completely destroys the elegance of the Macbook that Apple was trying to achieve (especially with that damned mini DisplayPort) and can cost quite a bit extra. They make good stuff, but latest generation technology? There's a lot missing...
To me, multi-touch served as a way to make navigation easier when a mouse wasn't around. Bringing it to the mouse is a very backwards step in my eyes.

Not to mention, I don't even want to imagine the finger and hand cramps involved after using it.
is dell still using proprietary motherboards? if they are, definitely stay away from their desktops.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
