LED Painter {Hack a Day}

Jul 2nd 2008 12:55AM Finally, I've been waiting for this since I bought some 5940s for a friend's katamari costume that never happened (king's head piece with correct light patterns)

Softbank announces iPhone 3G pricing for Japan {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 23rd 2008 2:55PM I was under the impression that cellphone contracts were illegal in Japan, David Pogue and others have been saying for years we should ban subsidy agreements like japan has...

Midify board adds MIDI port to Nintendo gaming handhelds {Engadget}

Jun 23rd 2008 12:24PM I'm sorry Darren, but this addon will not let you use your DS as a MIDI controller.
The product description on Division 6 is vague in that they say you can add a MIDI port to any handheld. They should have said MIDI In port. The features list makes it clear this board just turns whatever its wired to into an instrument. Absolutely useless for using your DS as a sequencer. A DSMI compatible card is required to use your DS to directly control a MIDI instrument. DSerial is the only such card being marketed currently. The other option as always is to use DSMI over wifi.

Bioshock PC DRM removed {Big Download Blog}

Jun 20th 2008 1:57AM The title is very misleading. All they did was replace a server-side db check to always return true. All the clientside DRM and activation are still there. SecureROM crapware and all.

WD's My Book Mirror Edition simplifies redundant storage {Engadget}

Jun 18th 2008 12:23PM BuddyBoy, that limit is imposed by the firmware in your drive enclosure, or the ancient version of windows you are running. Whoever told you it was a limitation of the Bus/Protocol was flat out lying.
for PATA and (e)SATA, the limit is 144 PB
for SCSI, the limit is 8 ZB
USB (Mass Storage Class) and Firewire (Serial Bus Protocol 2) are limited by the underlying physical interface to the drives, as they each can use atleast 64bits of address.

EFiX wants to bring OSX86 to the masses {Engadget}

iPhone 3G activation in store only? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 10th 2008 5:25AM Cycomachead: But if you get a refund you don't keep the phone. Pay the early termination and you do. Which I believe was fishbert's point.

The Joystiq Free Game Club: Trackmania Nations Forever {Joystiq}

Jun 9th 2008 5:10PM @Haggard: Thankfully they were smart this time, last time (the original Trackmania Nations) they left starforce in as a stupid attempt at keeping people using it to crack the pay version.

If it looks like a DS and plays like a DS {DS Fanboy}

Jun 9th 2008 4:46PM Unlock it, get a cheap goPhone, swap the sim card in, pickup the $20/mo unlimited data for goPhone
I believe there was a post on TUAW about it not long ago.
I plan to do the same once the 3G is unlocked and replace my horrible cable service with it. $75/mo to the cable co for 512kb - 7mbit with 300ms ping vs $20/mo for the same or better service from AT&T, hrm, tough choice.

The Joystiq Free Game Club: Trackmania Nations Forever {Joystiq}

Jun 9th 2008 11:48AM As I said above, they stopped using starforce, but many folks such as myself are still pissed about it.
