Oh, and keep in mind that you need a DVD drive to install Tiger. That'll limit a few users, although I installed it onto my sister's old G3 iMac using target disk mode over firewire by booting to the DVD from another Mac.
I just got and IM today from a friend with a first-gen iBook who wants me to get her set up with it. It may not be the second revision, but she got it so long ago that I can't really remember. I'm talking clamshell, toilet seat style iBook. I have a feeling this may be a job for OS 9. It hurts to type that.
Will Apple have any legal ground to stand on to stop them once a standalone version of OS X for Intel is released? Right now, all Intel Macs ship with 10.4.x. But when 10.5 is released, Apple will have to sell copies of it so people can upgrade. Would there be anything to stop anyone from just buying this and installing it on any old PC, aside from some silly software license agreement?
Not sure if this is related, but I took this screenshot at the Apple Store on a black MacBook today...

This is pretty slick looking. I'll have to try it when I get home.
I'm planning to get a MacBook before Leopard comes out, so I hope that if Apple is planning to include virtualization, they announce it at WWDC, so people like myself don't end up buying Parallels for $80 and then get the same functionality in Tiger.
If I remember correctly, SheepShaver itself is nothing new. I think it was an old BeOS app for running Mac OS programs, or maybe the other way around.
I've been using Monolingual for years, and it's a great little app. It was a big help with my old Pismo PowerBook, which only had a 6 gig drive. Space isn't so precious these days, but it's sometimes nice to clean out the junk and get a few hundred megs back.
I don't feel like reading through to see if anybody else mentioned anything, but I saw the elevator being worked on on Friday afternoon around 6. Workers were doing something to it and had it parked at the top.
Wow, Stefan, so no other notebook with a core duo processor has a defect? You must have done some really good research. Or is it that nobody really subjects any of others to the extreme level of scrutiny and whining that Apple's machines get.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
