The 2008 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Game Console of the Year {Engadget}

Mar 2nd 2009 6:02PM Woops, heheh.. Didn't read "You can debate the product later when we put it up to vote. Just leave the name of what you want to nominate, ok?"

Sorry.

The 2008 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Game Console of the Year {Engadget}

Mar 2nd 2009 6:00PM The PS3 is way better than the Xbox 360 because:
1. It has WAY more potential than the Xbox. Sure, graphics are about the same on both systems right now, but the Xbox is almost at it's maximum (Halo 3 used ±90% of it's power). Killzone 2, however, is the first game for the PS3 to use more than half the PS3's power, it uses about 60%. The aim for Uncharted 2 is to use full 100%, which is very hard to accomplish as designers still have to figure out the best way to program for the PS3. Moreover, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray. Of course it's not as developed as DVD right now, but again, it has huge potential. This lets designers create games without limitations, as BD holds 50GB of storage (actually, 400GB is accomplished as a proof of concept and the PS3 is able to read it). On the contrary, the Xbox's real limitation is DVD. 9GB is enough for now, but it doesn't let designers do what they want.

2. The PS3 is way, WAY more reliable. I have seen no major problems with any PS3 since the day it was launched. Unlike the RRoD on the Xbox, and what about the grinding/scratching DVD drive, the overheating issues etc. etc. Personally, I would be really getting sick of a console that breaks down every 3 months.

3. It just has better games. Seriously, Halo 3 is overhyped/overrated. The PS3 has, and will get for example:

-LittleBigPlanet
-Killzone 2
-Uncharted 2
-Resistance 2
-Motorstorm Pacific Rift
-God of War 3
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Final Fantasy XIII versus
-Gran Turismo 5
-Heavy Rain
-inFamous
-Ratchet & Clank 2
-White Knight Chronicles
-M.A.G.

And of all these titles, every single one is awesome. PS3 > Xbox 360.

Oh yeah. Online capabilities, that's what the Xbox people are so proud of. Well, everyone who thinks online capabilities are better on the Xbox than on the PS3, that's BS. Really, what online features does the Xbox have more compared to the PS3? I cannot think of any. Actually, I'd say the PS3 has more online features, looking at PS Home for example.

Feb 5th 2009 6:45PM Lol, look at the bottom of the home screen.. Looks like math:

2(3G) (=)
2 * 3 + 2 * G (=)
6 + 2G (=)
3 + G

:)

(No seriously, what the hell does "2(3G)" mean?)

DisplayPort 1.2 adds Apple's mini connector, stereoscopic 3D {Engadget}

Jan 14th 2009 4:47PM @ why not the LS2LS7?

What reason do you have to think that he's pro-DP? His information is all based on facts, he is in no way promoting DisplayPort, or taking down HDMI by his own opinion. In the article, DisplayPort sounds like it's the better option, but the writer actually NEVER gives his opinion. Like I said, he's just telling the facts, and it's for you to decide wether DisplayPort or HDMI is, or will be better.

DisplayPort 1.2 adds Apple's mini connector, stereoscopic 3D {Engadget}

Jan 14th 2009 2:29PM @ why not the LS2LS7?

"It'd be like asking Toshiba which is better, HD-DVD or BluRay."

I don't agree on that. Unlike Toshiba with HD-DVD, Dell did not invent DisplayPort. Obviously, Toshiba thought HD-DVD was better since they kind of created the format (with help from other companies). The article from Dell that CraigJ posted, is just Dell's opinion about DisplayPort, it's not that they HAVE to promote it or anything. And I thought it was very clarifying, the way it explained which advantages DisplayPort has, opposed to HDMI.

(Sorry for any bad English, it's not my native language).

I know I posted this before, but your statement is absolutely ridiculous so I'll post it again.

Exclusives out now:
-LittleBigPlanet: It isn't childish, it's alot of fun when you get into it - couldn't stop laughing the first time I played.
-Resistance 2: Awesome game, cool weapons, 60 players online (which works like a charm, PSN doesn't suck here at all).
-Motorstorm Pacific Rift: Very nice successor of Motorstorm 1, much better graphics and gameplay.
-MGS4: Unbelieveable graphics, gameplay is again very awesome, the best PS3 game if you're a MGS fan.
-Valkyria Chronicles: Unique, but cool graphics. Very nice RPG to play.

And some upcoming exclusives which look very promising:
-Heavy Rain
-MAG: 256 players online!
-Final Fantasy Versus XIII
-Killzone 2: However alot of people didn't like Killzone 1 (which wasn't very bad at all), alot of in-game footage make this game look awesome.
-Gran Turismo 5
-God of War 3
-inFamous
-Uncharted 2

Just to name a few of the best ones. So much for not enough exclusives I suppose (and since when does quantity equal better quality..?). And however it's a little more expensive than the Xbox's games, you get a lot more content thanks to Blu-Ray as opposed to DVD (50GB vs 9GB). I think it's worth the extra 10 or so dollars. Especially when you look at the awesome exclusives still coming out, it's safe to say the PS3 is very competitive even though it's twice the price of the Xbox 360 (the cheapest version WHICH DOESN'T COME WITH AN HDD, yeah thanks for this great update which lets you install games.. On your HDD).
