Although a small announcment, this is a significant step of Google. Imagine Writely to work offline, this is then a direct competitor to MS Word. Or GMail working offline ==> Outlook killer

Have they read the book "10 Things to avoid when announcing your web site"? They took those 10 things and put it on their page. Two other remarks:

1) Possible trademark conflict with Microsoft Live Search. If you can choose a name freely, you shouldn't be that dumb to take a similar name

2) They claim to search the web live (no stored indexes). This is simply not possible. You cannot search millions of web sites at the same time. If it was 1st of April, I'd call it April fools.

Nuff said.

@NovaLand: The OLPC laptop has two graphic modes. The energy-saving B/W mode, even readable in plain sunlight, and the color mode. So the picture is no fake.

I don't think HD Photo will fly. MS also pushes XPS as a superior document format to PDF. Those "old" formats are just too common and spread everywhere. I would rather welcome enhancements of the known formats that just adding new ones.
I have just started a website called "Stolen E-Mail Addresses". You have to type in your valid E-Mail address and the site will tell you if it has been stolen.

Unowingly to the public I will gather all E-Mail Addresses that stupid users type in the search box and sell them to spammers.

Will download squad feature my website, please? It is such a great idea.
This exists since some time for MSDN subscribers or businesses. Anyhow, not everybody wants download 2.5 Gigs over internet connection....

I would definitely want a DVD. But if MS provides the ISOs for download, I would burn it myself, if it makes the product cheaper.
I would definitely buy one, once the are available at olpc.com

You should still consider this thing Beta. The rollout is planned for July 2007.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
