Did I hear the Jerry Seinfeld theme coming out of it during that ghey ass spiel at boot up?

May 26th 2008 9:33AM Hey, good point!! There can be like a little icon in the corner. One CSS property adjusted by javascript and the whole thing can be adjusted between fixed width and free!

Poll: fixed or variable width content for Engadget? {Engadget}

May 26th 2008 9:31AM I thought this post could answer the question once and for all, but then I realized that engadget readers don't necessarily represent the 'average' web user.

One thing I'd like to say though, please stop using the phrase 'after the break' in so many posts. It's not that it sucks but it's repetitive. Do a search for "after the break" on google (with the quotes). The third result from the top is engadget.

I get most of my posts from the gmail rss feed. When I link to the page, the 'after the break' makes absolutely no sense.

I'd suggest a link at the bottom of the post like an excerpt, to the effect of 'click here to continue reading and an exclusive picture of a macbook air with two F10 keys'

Otherwise, I'll wait until I get my dual 13" screen laptop to tell you what engadget looks like at 1536*1024

Modder creates Dreamcast portable from mom's plastic jewelry box {Engadget}

May 14th 2008 5:53AM woa that's totally an the wrong comment.
I wanted to say that the game gear's battery life was more like 4.5 minutes, not hours.

ALso, this thing is neat, but does the CD skip?

the above post is a totally unrelated reply to another post, crazy browser glitch.. sorry. :)

May 14th 2008 5:50AM It's so true. With wireless devices, you can feel the electromagnetism in the air all around you. That HDTV signal is literally going through your body as it emanates from the base station. It's a palpable feeling. I have read of studies that attempt to link wireless radiation with mood disorders. Personally I feel quite calmer when the devices in the house are turned off. It's like a high-pitched whining is gone from my central cortex.

Lenovo has some funny-ha-ha times at MacBook Air's expense {Engadget}

Apr 30th 2008 10:23AM That's a good one. Admittedly, IBM thinkpads are some sweet looking hardware, but I wouldn't run vista if they paid me a consulting fee. We should start separating our hardware from our software and leave it to personal preference. It's a pity to have such a nice machine tarnished by the fact that its operating system is the computational equivalent of bovine excrement.

On the other hand, we shouldn't compare this to the macbook ingraciously. Sure it's got a built-in DVD drive, but it's a fallacy to believe you'll never hook up an external device to it. Additionally, that mess of wires and cables in the video is just a bunch of nonsense. It's like three hubs to connect a single external drive.

Finally, we should give the nod to the macbook because it is a pioneering design and a totally different concept. On an airplane I would much much rather have a macbook air than this device, seeing as I would most certainly have no need for a DVD drive, (yes, even for watching movies).

Not to mention, it is absolutely 100% guaranteed that the research and development that led to the macbook processor most certainly went into the design of this machine's processor as well, so without the macbook this machine would be just another X series.

Now let's just wait and see which palmrest will start to peel first.

Apple says AirPort Disk use with Time Machine is unsupported {Engadget}

Apr 8th 2008 4:07AM I stopped using the time machine. All it was doing in my case was causing wear and tear on my external HD and slowing down my mac every hour. I used it to recover a file maybe once or twice, and even then it was more out of boredom than real necessity.

I could hear my hard drive's lifespan shortening every time the thing ran, so I turned off the service rather than risk losing my backup due to frequent backups.

Deutsche Telekom / T-Mobile demands Engadget Mobile discontinue using the color magenta {Engadget}

Apr 1st 2008 7:27AM In any event, T-mobile is in the business of the invisible spectrum, selling wireless service, it's not that surprising that they should try to grab parts of the visible spectrum.

That's all fine and dandy, but there is a much more sinister undertone to that letter. They are pointing out that engadget is a subsidiary of Time Warner what have you. In a not-so-subtle way they are indicating that not only should time warner go along with this in terms of a corporate courtesy, but instead of going after t-mobile, they should stake out another part of the spectrum for themselves.

This is just galling. I can picture the president of T-mobile wearing panties and high heels in his berlin penthouse stroking his ego with a big pink something or other.
