AT&T, O2 post updates on iPhone 3G stock situation, promise they don't have a secret cache {Engadget}

Jul 24th 2008 12:10PM My buddy had dead pixels on his iPhone that he bought on launch day. He called AppleCare yesterday who called up the nearest Apple store and told him to come in later that night. He then called the local Apple Store directly and asked if they had any phones in stock (hoping to save a wasted trip if they didn't have phones like the website said) and they said no but that they'd "be able to work something out for him." So obviously they aren't selling all of their stock and keeping some in the back for exchanges, etc.

iTunes activation server pining for the fjords {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 11th 2008 10:44AM I just got sent home from the Apple store with my iPhone unactivated and told to activate from home. This shows that Apple and AT&T could allow us to activate from home but simply didn't want to. I'm disappointed in Apple today as I wait for my phone to activate thru iTunes at home.

Akron, Ohio to provide free citywide WiFi, inevitably fail within a few years {Engadget}

Jul 1st 2008 5:04PM I lived in Akron for 3 years (just moved out) and it's 2 nice streets in downtown surrounded by lots of shody areas and a nicer area called Highland Square to the west. The city continues to pour money into doing nice things but hasn't cleaned up the streets.Akron is a pretty rough area outside of the 8am-5pm commuter time.

Jul 1st 2008 4:04PM When I first signed up with AT&T 5 years ago (Cingular back then) I was 16 years old and hadn't ever had any bills in my name. I went in with my dad prepared to need a cosigner and they signed me up on my own contract with out a cosigner or deposit. I think you'll be ok.

Jun 27th 2008 12:35PM You'll setup your new 3G iPhone with the included sim card. People that upgraded from the 8GB to 16GB 2.5G iPhones were told to use the new SIM and not transfer over their old sim.

Debunk: Schiller's front facing iPhone 3G camera {Engadget}

Jun 12th 2008 9:07AM This generation of the iPhone was about addressing the major complaints of consumers...no 3G, closed OS, too expensive, impossible to get in most countries. It's like a lot of people on the internet have said, this was about making a $500 phone $200 so it's in more people's hands. Then once everyone and their mom have a iPhone, they'll start boosting the specs in gen 3 to get people to buy up to the latest/greatest.
