Nov 15th 2009 5:37PM My surround system cost about 2x what the hdtv costs, which I think makes me in the audiophile group. But I sincerely believe surround should cost AT LEAST as much as the TV. If your TV was a 500$ walmart special, then get a 500$ HTIB.
I refuse to watch movies at other peoples houses because their sound sucks, which takes me out of the movie (unless we are watching cheezy stuff to make fun of it).
I can't even go to the theater anymore because even though the screen is bigger, my home theater sounds better than even the "11,000 watt" system at the local Imax. (I have actually verified this by watching a trailer right before seeing a movie there, then seeing the trailer in the theater. Mine sounds better. BTW, I only spent 2,000$ on my surround system, which is fairly cheap in my opinion)

Oct 20th 2009 8:36AM I'm sure you must mean better than Transformers 2. Transformers was good for what it was, but the 2nd sucked so much... I would rather watch Waterworld 100 more times than watch Transformers 2 again.

I need to upgrade my 3 year old 37" Westinghouse.
I still can't decide if I want to wait for 3d capable projector or just bite it for a 120hz lcd in the 50"+ range and get the 3d projector in a couple years.

Oct 9th 2009 7:07PM In my opinion, for movies like Coraline or Avatar, 3d is the same thing as OAR. It's how the director originally intended. I got Coraline on Bluray, but the 3d version is unwatchable, when a proper true 3d version is available, I will rebuy it.
and I don't intend to buy Avatar AT ALL until it is available in a proper 3d format and I have the proper 3dtv to watch it. I won't even buy it at all in a 2d or red/blue version.

Sep 21st 2009 10:09PM It was doomed from the start. The Writers strike killed it. I watched it all and as a Terminator fan I loved it... HOWEVER the writing was terrible going into the second season. The first season started kinda slow but built up to outrageously awesome by the 8th episode and Brian Austin Green was surprisingly absolutely fantastic. But with the second season it was like they just completely ran out of steam and had no plan whatsoever and just made it up as they went along.
It could have been so much better.
*note: don't get me wrong, I AM buying the bluray (amazon has already charged me). I still love the Terminator mythology too much, even in this alternate timeline.
Also got Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Heck yes.
I got the ST:NG movies mostly for First Contact, but I like the others once in a while. (okay, Insurrection was just terrible... but I can still watch it)

Sep 19th 2009 4:58PM If it's your first time, just get a 200 dollar 5.1 HTIB. You WILL be blown away if you're coming from tv speakers. Then, in a couple years when your ears have become accustomed and the freshness has worn off, go for the full setup and you will AGAIN be blown away by the improvement. This is what I did. Got a Pro Logic 5.1 htib in 1999 (they were rather expensive then.) I was blown away, especially with my brand new 36" CRT. Then upgraded to Dolby Digital 5.1 HTIB in 2004 for only 200 bucks. Again I was blown away by the improvement. Got 37" HDTV in 2007, and four months ago I upgraded to a full surround setup using tower fronts and proper speakers for around $2000 using Lossless Audio on Bluray with a 2000 watt speaker system including 2 subwoofers. Now... EVERYONE is blown away by the system. It sounds better than the local movie theater.
But the biggest impact (literally) is the two subwoofers. Many people have come to find that several average size subs (say 12") can sound and feel way better than one thousand dollar big sub.

Sep 19th 2009 4:41PM I fully expect the next version of the xbox and playstation to advertise 3d support heavily. In the same way that the 360 and PS3 sold quite a few HDTVs, I think the next gen with 3d support will help launch 3d tv's. I'm guessing they should be able to add 3d support to many old titles at the same time. But I don't think you'll be able to get proper 3d out of the current gen consoles.
Note: I'm a Wii owner and PC gamer, but I've been quite tempted by the 360, especially since NetflixHD and stuff was added. But at this point in the consoles life, I'll just wait for the next gen.
