Lenovo's IdeaPad U8 makes official Olympics debut {Engadget}
Aug 18th 2008 10:05AM Too big to fit in your pocket (unlike the iPhone, HTC Touch, etc), and not big enough to use for work or real play. I don't understand why it exists. It's too big for what it is, and it's hideous.

Aug 16th 2008 2:53PM The screen is miniscule, and far too small for touch. The keypad is too small. I fail to see what the point of this thing is, and how Palm was even involved with their own product. It doesn't sound like they did anything.
Lenovo slips out the new ThinkPad X301: new CPUs, 128GB SSD, still thin as hell {Engadget}
Aug 16th 2008 12:28PM >>> "What is this current obcession with thin? Thin = compromise. Im not saying we should all go buy big bricks but my 1.2" thick Dell Vostro 1400 is fine for me."
Agreed. I have similar feelings regarding notebooks. My biggest problem with laptops have not been their thickness for a long, long time. If they make a 10", 12", or 13" laptop that's not heavy, I wouldn't care if the laptop was 0.9" or 1.1" thick. Make it 1.1" thick if you have to do so in order to prevent the fan from running all the time, or if it prevents the laptop from feeling warm.
Anyway, this machine sounds great.....other than the RAM.
More on Microsoft's Sphere revealed in new video and diagram {Engadget}
Aug 15th 2008 8:36AM They couldn't show a single useful application in the promotional video, and promo videos usually exaggerate how useful a product is. The real product is going to be even less useful for real-world applications. This will either be a rich man/company's toy, or an impulse purchase.

Jul 4th 2008 11:31AM Why is this better than the Eee? All these netbooks are rather comparable in specs and price. There doesn't seem to be anything that would sway me towards one instead of another, except build quality.
Apple orders 50 million iPhone NAND chips from Samsung, rest of world put on hold? {Engadget}
Jul 2nd 2008 7:43AM So Samsung is going to have these NAND chips put into a product that millions of people want? I don't see this as a huge problem. Current Apple products probably use a large proportion of NAND chips anyway. It's all about demand, and I'm not very surprised. If the choice was to give Apple only a fraction, say 50%, of Samsung's manufacturing output, then there'd be a huge shortage of iPods Touches, Nanos, and iPhones, while Samsung's other customers may not be in short supply at all due to there being less demand. Who knows.
Nikon D700 presentation video revealed early, it's very nice {Engadget}
Jun 30th 2008 11:47PM This camera will go for around $3000 USD. By the time you add the vertical grip to it, it'll be over $1000 less than the D3. However, this is probably a better camera than the D3 for most people because at least you have the option of taking off the vertical grip to save weight.
It's funny, because now that Canon knows the specs of this thing, they would probably be happy to announce the 5D MkII next week if they could. However, if the specs on the new 5D MkII are worse, they're just going to delay its release and bring it up to spec.
