BES seems to be intermittently out on my VZ BB in NYC.

It was working most of the day, then was out for a while between about 6:30 and 7:30 (I got a batch of messages at 7:26pm). And since about 7:30 nobody at my company has had any sent or received messages show up on their BES devices (most of us have VZ, but I think a couple have ATT or TMO).
My sister needs one of these as a Time Machine target.
My thoughts exactly. I've been a big Mac fan for years, but recently built myself a PC because I wanted the ability to add multiple internal hard drives, dual optical drives, and an internal SD card reader. The cheapest Mac Pro costs almost $3000. My PC cost me less than $500 and has every feature I wanted--except the ability to run OS X. But there was no way I was paying 6x as much to run OS X.
wall-clocks rule
This seems like a potentially very useful thing for my luddite parents, who keep buying more SD cards because they can't figure out how to get the pictures off their SD cards and into a useful format.

I'm considering buying them one of these and preconfiguring it for them so that all their photos will just go straight to smugmug or flickr or whatever.
AT&T has a largely-unadvertised VOIP service called Callvantage:

It's not as cheap as Sunrocket/Viatalk, but about the same as Vonage's unlimited plan. And a friend of mine who has it likes it a lot. It also seems it's a little less likely to disappear, since as much as AT&T sucks, they're probably not going anywhere any time soon.
What does the power brick weigh? 8lbs?
VZW's Global Blackberry service is only $15/mo more than their regular Blackberry service, which is a pretty good deal for folks who do a lot of int'l travel. I assume it probably doesn't include int'l voice calls, though.

I wonder if there's a way to get a la carte int'l data with a regular domestic data plan on this thing? I don't travel enough to justify $15/mo every month, but would like to have it for the couple times a year I travel internationally (and would be willing to pay $20-30 in those months for it to work).
The linked patent was filed in 2003. How is this new?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
