"I'm more psyched about Tetris DS. Rather than playing Hunters which will no doubt be a bastion for CS kiddies looking for a new home, at least Tetris DS will have a higher head count of intellectuals that are looking for a challenge that doesn't involve how well you can pull a trigger or how accurately you can aim a gun."

LMAO Like an FPS only attracts gun-toting brutes or that a game where the only rule is to line blocks really stands for intellectual achievement? Get your head out of your ass!

I love Tetris too, but I don't recall a puzzle game that only involves lining up blocks as being the benchmark for being intellectually advanced. Gee, look! I can clear 400 lines per game. I should register for Mensa! LOL

right. I think the investors, managers, and Nintendo consumers would disagree. If it's cheap enough and it sells in the market, it's innovative enough. Innovation in life is far beyond these "technical" specs people like to throw around. It's funny how people bitch and complain about the next gen consoles, but I was never the one to slam the other consoles by saying they're the same old crap over again. My only beef against them were the price premium you have to pay for their concept of innovation.

Making things a lot more convenient is definitely a point of innovation. Inventors in life don't invent just for the sake of inventing.
Sheesh people. you people bitch and complain because, in reality, you just cant pull this off, but Nintendo can!

if it's redesigned/repacked, still sells like crazy, and adds to the bottom line, then it's innovative.

if it's brand new, but nobody really wants it, and doesn't add to the bottom line, it's not so innovative.

*sarcasm* Why didn't they just release laptops first time around when the PC debuted 30 years ago?! Why didn't apple just release the ipod with video 5 years ago?! *sarcasm* Things just don't always come out like a dream the first time they're made. That's just life! Other industries have been doing this for over a century since the Industrial Revolution started, kids! Make it cheap-attractive-profitable, sell, redesign, repeat.

Let the markets speak for themselves! You people are such whiners! Get over it!
This blog entry is almost too silly.

This flash ram deal is like 10x more likely related to mobile phones and MP3 players than to the PSP. And it's only 1 year into next-gen handheld gaming. It's way too soon to redesign to this scale, especially for such an expensive game device. I really doubt sony is so suicidal.
only 3.6% and you want to buy? I think it needs to drop by 10% before it even looks kinda cheap.
"We're not sure how Nintendo's plans to release a web browser and a TV Tuner for the DS complement the gaming aspect of the device. "

The web browser is pretty apparent. Nintendo is testing on setting up a channel to distribute downloadable game content through a browser on the NDS instead of costly, inconvenient kiosks. The TV is out my comprehension as well, but knowing Nintendo, it's probably a pretty cheap venture.
"However, Nintendo have sold more DS's in the US market than Sony have sold PSP's in the entire world."

Do we have actual proof of this?!?! I like my DS and all, but that seems ludicrous. We're talking about PSP's, not Gizmondos.
don't we do a rudimentary version of this already with digital cable tv services and DVR? Granted it's not exactly like what Gates is describing, but we already started heading down this route a while ago. I'm not particularly a Gates fan, but I think he's right about this one. You can hate his company for "doing" this to companies, but it's hard to deny there's some logic to his statement. I agree with the "blame the internet for this" statement. Although I'm also sure there will be another middle man of sorts in the new business model. There always was, and there always will be.
Actually, after looking at all the stats this year, I don't think a stand alone UMD player will come out of Sony anytime soon. It will kill PSP sales even further, and will not boost UMD movie sales any further, as the devices will probably end up competing against each other. And sony will never allow a recordable UMD format right now because it will hurt game sales even further if they don't lock it up properly and still make it user friendly - a really difficult task to accomplish. If they did this on the get go, things would probably have looked alot different today.
"In a bid to boost the format, execs from SPHE and sister unit Sony Computer Electronics America, which sells the PSP, are touting a new adapter that would allow a user to watch a PSP pic on a TV

So is this going to be another bulky strap on or a real video out ?"

The real questions are how good will it look on the TV, and is it really going to be an adapter , or some stand alone peripheral that will treat the PSP as a UMD reader? The answer to the second question will most likely influence the quality of TV output, in a trade off between convenience andperformance.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
