Report says Sony is planning a netbook, apparently news to Sony {Engadget}
Jul 23rd 2008 12:30PM Everybody seems to have missed the salient point here.
Since Sony denied it... it is almost certainly true.
If they said nothing... well then, they would have nothing in the works, but a "denial" is their way of confirming a rumor (or so it seems).
As others have said though, look for Sony's version of a "low cost" netbook to be the first to top $1K
San Francisco to test wireless parking sensors, cause rat races to momentarily open spaces {Engadget}
Jul 16th 2008 9:20AM I wish I could find the link to the article, but it has been suggested that the whole "open spot" is merely smoke and mirrors to the real reason they are doing this... When the sensor discovers you are leaving the spot... it zeros out the meter. In other words even if I had pumped enough quarters into the meter that there is another hour of time left when I pull out... the meter immediately resets to zero time, so that when you pull in, there is no "free time" there for the next car.
Sprint's Motorola Q9 / Q9c gone for good? {Engadget}
Jun 23rd 2008 8:53AM Verizon just did something similar, as it seems the Q9m is being replaced with a (suprisingly enough) a Q9c. So perhaps there is a refresh of the Q9c line going on with Motorola.
HP to finally ship the iPAQ 900 series business phone {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 12th 2008 11:43AM This looks like the unholy offspring of a T-Mobile Dash combined with the keyboard of a Centro.
I know the PDA market is dead (and has been for some time), but everything that HP has done to the iPaq line is just so sad. They took a leading brand and just absolutely killed it.
Verizon Wireless announces $30 unlimited browsing plan for smartphones {Engadget Mobile}
Jun 12th 2008 11:26AM T-Mobile's lack of 3G is WHY they offer a $19.99 data plan. When that 3G finally comes to fruition (or if), if they actually have some decent coverage, the price will more than likely match those of the rest of the market.
Not to mention (at least here in NJ), T-mobiles voice coverage is still pretty pathetic. What good is a cheap plan if you can't actually use it everywhere?
OLPC Sugar OS takes on a life of its own, will anybody care? {Download Squad}
May 19th 2008 2:14PM Plain and simple, the SugarOS was a bust. Even computer literate people found it a bit... odd and unintuitive (and ugly). That is not a knock on Linux, but on the GUI they put on top. With this less that ideal interface, you go to sell this idea on a 3rd World country, and they see it as crap being dumped on them rather than the OS that the "rest of the world" is using.
Nothing wrong with an alternative OS to XP though... just fix it and try again.
HTC boldly predicts 2M Touch Diamond sales this year {Engadget Mobile}
May 19th 2008 2:04PM I would agree that they would hit this mark easily... but of course, you can bet those on Verizon won't see this phone, at least not until it has been stripped of anything useful... and most likely not until mid-2009 if their current record rate of adoption holds.
Yahoo willing to reopen talks, was just kidding around about $37 {Engadget}
May 7th 2008 12:34PM I don't think Jerry was putting Job Security of employees first. He was putting his EGO first.
There was Billions put aside by Microsoft (based on reports) for employee retention funding.
The only job Jerry was trying to save was his own. And whether he will actually do that will now be all about next quarter's numbers since everybody will be looking at them under a microscope.
Yahoo! adds malware warnings to search results {Download Squad}
May 6th 2008 9:12AM I used site advisor some time ago, and unless they fixed their model a bit, this is not necessarily the good thing it at first blush appears to be.
I have seen plenty of real sites listed as Red Flagged, including PC Magazine, ZDNet, and others. And if you start not trusting Site Advisor, well then the warnings are pretty much useless.
Yahoo willing to reopen talks, was just kidding around about $37 {Engadget}
May 6th 2008 9:08AM C'mon Jerry... using the "nuh..uhhh I didn't rebuff them... they like totally left ME" is NOT going to stop the inevitable lawsuits that will be coming your way.
Did you think the stock market had your price up there because of your, "we are like gonna be real rich and totally dominate everybody... in 3 years" speech?
Now the stock takes a hit, and the only reason it isn't worse is because there are people out there that think Microsoft may still do it, and you are surprised and after running around trying to court anybody and everybody to save your from Microsoft, you are trying to place the blame on them? Good gravy man, do you have no self-respect?
If you really think that the stock was undervalued at 34, then right now you should consider it a steal, and should be buying up shares. Are you buying up shares Jerry? Putting you money where your mouth is? No... hmmm.... what's the matter, not drinking your own Kool-Aid?
