Kaleidescape's overpriced upscaling DVD players get reviewed {Engadget}
Jun 19th 2008 7:59AM Option I:
Let's say you already own 1,000 DVD's at a cost of say $15 a pop. Now you buy this Kaleidescape DVD player for $4,500.
Total cost: $19,500
Option II:
Now let's say you buy a Blu Ray player for $500 and buy 1,000 Blu Ray titles at $30 a pop.
Total cost: $30,500
Total savings with option I: $11,000
No really, it's cheaper to go with option II. Rigghhhttttt...
SonyNEC Optiarc projects sub-$100 Blu-ray optical drives by year's end {Engadget}
Jun 6th 2008 7:34AM Uhm... Fine and dandy but BD movie titles are still $30 and up while DVD prices are around $10-$15. So 10 BD movies equals $300, while 10 DVD's equals $150. That $150 difference is absurdly huge bordering on ripoff... Sorry, next!!!
Lack of competition sends Blu-ray player prices upward {Engadget}
Mar 13th 2008 7:51AM Inflation??? Recession??? I say BS... I haven't seen the price of Pioneer Kuro Plasma's go up nor the price of cars.
New technology??? I say BS (partly) again... The difference isn't like tube tv's vs. Plasmas or LCD's (new screen type) or VHS vs. DVD (new media type). Blu Ray players are just glorified/modified DVD players.

Nov 20th 2007 8:55AM This is exactly why I hope Blu Ray (Sony) will not win the HD format "war." Sony = high prices = cartel = bad for consumers...

BackupHDDVD creator speaks out {Engadget}
Jan 27th 2007 1:58PM muslix64 excuse as to why he hacked HD DVD's and Blu Ray's content protection is so lame. With the amount of time and money he invested in hacking HD DVD and Blu Ray he could have bought a nice HDCP compliant monitor/tv.
Dave A. are you willing to work for free next year (as in not getting paid) just because you've always been paid each and every year? I didn't think so... Anyway, people work to get paid. Companies make/produce things to make money. Simple as that.
