Tesco leaks 12-inch Dell E Slim specs running "Ubunto" -- October 6th launch? {Engadget}
Sep 12th 2008 9:10AM Don't worry Engadget, Tesco rarely take any notice of suppliers or manufacturers and are usually quite happy to spend years in court just so they can keep selling their wares without their permission for just that little bit longer (i.e. the Levi Jeans case a few years back).
Video: Android SDK v0.9 hits the internet looking almost ready for primetime {Engadget}
Aug 18th 2008 4:35PM For me? Maps definitely but then again I'm always on the move. I think Google want to make the most out of their online services so having Maps on the first screen you see is a bit of a no brainer. You put your strongest cards on the table first.
British bots battle it out, Army-style {Engadget}
Aug 18th 2008 12:59AM Also, it isn't a "makeshift "wartime European village," " but actually are part of a very permenant training facility which was designed to simulate urban warfare in a West German hamlet style of location. Interestingly, there is a similar facility on the south coast of England which simulates the same high density urban environment that you would find in central Belfast or Derry. All hush hush mind you and I doubt that its used anymore.
Anyway, focus on what you know Engadget and leave the Military double-guessing to Wired.com's Danger Room blog. This is kind of like saying that Fort Bragg has a "makeshift training area for America's Airborne forces".
Author Nick Hornby not feeling the fever pitch over e-books {Engadget}
Jul 6th 2008 6:22AM Exactly. This is something for the pretentious chattering classes (of the upper middle class variety) to bicker over. At the price of $399, none of these e-books will have any serious penetration for the majority who live on the minimum wage in either the UK or United States.
Moving to marginalise the poor by forcing the written word onto electronic mediums such as this coupled with today's dumbed down media and we're seriously wondering why our generation onwards is one of the most ignorant ever?
Author Nick Hornby not feeling the fever pitch over e-books {Engadget}
Jul 6th 2008 4:40AM Apart from being able to store loads of books on one device, can anyone explain to me why I should spend £250/$399 on a device which is much easier to break and WAY more expensive to replace if stolen than...you know...a £5/$11 book?
This is solution in search of a problem. If you are thinking "gee, I wish I could take 500 books with me on my long weekend away in some romantic city" then you're sad and in a very tiny minority.
I'm sorry, but unless you can get the price of these devices down to under £20, I ain't getting one and nor will 99.9% of the rest of the Western World.
ZAP Alias electric car makes its video debut {Engadget}
Jun 26th 2008 2:18PM Didn't anyone read the Wired article on how dubious ZAP is as a business?
They've been promising affordable electric cars for the best part of 15 years now and doing really dodgy things like paying for costs and overheads by issuing more shares.
Honda's ASIMO robot to conduct Yo-Yo Ma and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra {Engadget}
Apr 23rd 2008 2:53PM Wait...Detroit can afford a Symphony Orchestra?
Who is it made up of? Hobos, failed hip hoppers and unemployed car workers?
Apple updates Xserve -- "most powerful Apple server ever" {Engadget}

Blockbuster chooses Blu-ray: is the war over? {Engadget}
Jun 17th 2007 7:33PM Guys, this isn't bloody Microsoft vs Netscape, or even something smaller. Toshiba, Universal, et al are all grown up big boys who pull in just as much dough as Sony does. The better supported format always wins, nobody was crying foul when Phillips Betamax lost out to VHS eons ago so how exactly is this different?
This is how the market works. Toshiba, Universal, etc are not going to go bankrupt over this. Deal with it.
