Ask Engadget: Which are the best earbuds? {Engadget}
Dec 7th 2007 12:15AM I see a lot of support for ultimate ears here, and as an owner of three pairs (UE-5 Ambient, UE-10 and Super.fi 5 pro) I have to say that the custom earpieces are definitely not worth the price unless you are a performer and need an earpiece that will stay in your ear while thrashing around and opening / closing your mouth. Or, if comfort is a huge issue or you then the custom pieces are second to none. Otherwise, you can actually get better sonic performance from the Super-fi buds with foam seals (always, always use foam seals if you can, they have a transformative power over any pair of earbuds). To date the best buds I've owned are FutureSonics E1 EARS, which unfortunately aren't made anymore, which were $99 as opposed to the $800+ bill for each pair of custom UEs (which I still do use on stage).

Cheap mod quiets Rock Band drums {Joystiq}
Nov 29th 2007 10:37AM I had the same problem with my Roland V-Drums. My downstairs neighbor came to my door asking if I was "practicing dancing or something". It turns out it's not the noise, it's the vibration from hitting the drums that goes into the floor and creates the impression that you're jumping up and down in your apartment (think about the kick drum, you're basically stomping on the floor). I built a simple drum riser out of plywood and foam and saved myself a lot of trouble.
