Essentially a day out of warranty my 15" MBP's screen went belly-up. Blacks are green, with stripes/banding throughout - not like looking at an LCD from the wrong angle.

There is also moving fuzzy vertical lines, and they come and go.

Occasionally (rarely) it rights itself, then returns to normal.

Cost to repair is more than half a new laptop, but this thing was really only a week or two out of non-extended warranty. Ridiculous!
If it was truly an internet telescope it'd, uh, compress them Terabytes of data down a bit. Quite a stupid statement, if you stop and think about it.
C'mon, this is all smack talk to cover their Faileo arses. Surely.

(No, I jest, but I just don't care. Palm FAIL.)
Way to lie down and accept that you're a judgemental dick.

"Those kids today, loud music, RAP sucks" etc etc

One day your boss will most probably be 10 years younger than you, a forward thinking, intelligent open-minded individual that (luckily for you) won'tt have the same restricted world-view you do.

Otherwise, it's "the older generation are cranky, bad-driving geezers" etc etc. Sure, you're only 32, but you seem to be lying down and waiting for that stereotype to really come to fruition. So
People - look at the black photo. Blue lights.
It has fully customisable LED output, so you can change the colour. So in your VW with green / red lit dash, you can alter it to fit.

With the simple design (especially the black model) you're not far off getting a unit that does actually match your interior.

Why they went with white / peach as the display pic... urgh. That's just bad.
This is why the US has such a woeful mish-mash of cellular technology. Big business bullying.

I won't be surprised to see the FCC cave and submit to Verizon's requests, despite tthe fact that it is blatantly anti-consumer.
Why is everyone so surprised by this?

Sure, it has the fundamental tech to do this... but it's still an iPod. If Apple were to release a PDA or Tablet-esque portable it'll be in it's own product catgory... or with the iPhone.

it's the iPod Touch... not the iPDA Touch. And as Engadget point out - they have to draw a line int he sand between the Phone and the Media Player, or totally canibalise their sales.

Even though every man and his dog is clamouring for the iPhone in Europe (well, anywhere outside the US), the device still has to be attractive to the carriers... or they risk alot of outlay to get their tech in line with Apple's (visual voice mail, whatever else Jobs demands) only to have people passing over the Phone for a cheaper iPod.

If I hear another dick talking about VoIP on the Touch i'll vomit.. unless I missed the bit in the tech sheets where there is a mic included in the iPod.
How have I missed the S series of players? I think the Axxx models look sorta fugly (even in person, I have had the pleasure), but the S series are sweet looking.. why haven't i seen them in any stores?

Sony is slowly coming good with it's porrtable media players - way too late in the game, unfortunately.
Yeah, what's up with all the homophobic BS in the comments these days?

It's just... sad, really. I hope editors take note and, I dunno... what can you do?

Invite only comments, I reckon.
1500+ comments already.... but I can still hope for the Lumix. Please?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
