"...fruits, dishes, etc."? What a strange list! I'm trying to imagine the etc. Feet? Laundry? Tape dispensers?
Wasn't there a big stir in December about how so many people send SMS messages at midnight on New Year's Eve/Day that it clogs the phone tubes up and message delivery gets delayed, sometimes by several hours? How would sending messages to millions of phones simultaneously work again?
Still no pictures or photos of the 3D view, still no clarification on whether or not it has Bluetooth (my guess is a negative), still a crummy form factor, etc. The tech was killer when the product was first announced, but they took so long to get it to market that it's just not so killer anymore. Certainly not for the price. Garmin and TomTom are not far behind on this stuff.

I was gung-ho trying to get in their pilot program back when it came out, but I won't by buying one of these.
No, I have a problem sitting across from someone while I'm having lunch with them and a little blue LED on the side of their face is blinking every 4 seconds. You know you don't have to wear the thing on your face while you don't have a phone call, right? Bringing disabled people into the conversation is irrelevant - that's not a phone. What, are you going to miss the landing window for the space shuttle if you take your telephone off the side of your head while we're eating our Subway? Maybe you shouldn't have left your office. Driving in your car and want both hands free? Maybe even by state or local law? That's a completely different thing.
"Joby may have stumbled upon a solution that brings the audio benefits without making the sides of our faces look too ridiculous."

Nope, all bluetooth headsets make the sides of faces look horribly ridiculous. I'll probably be modded down for saying so on a gadget site, but I can't even have a conversation with someone while they're wearing one of these things.
Still no image of the 3D view and no word on if it's bluetooth enabled. I was on the bandwagon big time when this was announced, but I'm getting more and more skeptical. The Garmin Nuvi 760 and the TomTom 920 are both superior devices, in my opinion. Dash has a couple of great unique features, but my guess is they won't remain unique for long, and their weird form factor and high price is going to push them out of contention.
No one except every single comment above yours.
Thanks for the reply, Mark. The form factor really is a big deal to me. Does the Dash Express fold up on a hinge, or is it molded in that L-Shape? I think the greatest thing about the Nuvi is the slim form factor. I can take it out of the car, from a bracket that clips onto my vent, and toss it in my laptop bag (or man-bag!) or even a cargo pocket in my pants. With an L-shaped device, it essentially takes up the volume of a cube, or close to it. If I can't easily take it with me when I leave my vehicle then it has to stay in it. I don't know how common car break-ins are in southern California, I'm in the Detroit metro area. Simply having a bracket on your windshield is plenty reason to get your window smashed. Whether the device is in there or not, I still have a smashed window.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing a production unit. I've been on the mailing list for these guys since the product was announced but unfortunately, was not included in the beta test. I've held out on buying a GPS to see how this product develops. When the product was announced nearly a year ago, many of the features were revolutionary, but several of them are now available on the high-end TomTom and Garmin units.

I'm looking at either a Dash Express or a Garmin Nuvi 760 around tax return time in 2008. I'm not thrilled about Dash's form factor, and the Nuvi is far better in that regard. I'd prefer not to have a bracket on my windshield screaming, "Break into this car! There might be a GPS in here!" The true two-way nature of the Dash is a serious advantage, but with CES in January and the typical post-Christmas price reductions on electronics, it's going to be a tough battle for my cash.
Ah, this way they'll be able to tell who's late for the Two Minutes Hate.

No. No, no, no, no, no.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
