MR said: But I wouldn't have bought 2 of the 250k iphones if it couldn't be unlocked. And I'm sure most of the 250k customers would agree. That'd mean a big fat $0 instead of the $65M for Apple. In fact, by your calculation, Apple still gets $240 * 250k = $60M without activation. That ain't too bad compared to $0 if the customers don't buy at all.
In reply: I believe Ryan's numbers was referring to $240 (their percentage from monthly bill of subscribers) * 250k so unlocked phone actually loses $60M, not gains since T-Mo doesn't hand over any percentage of monthly bills.
I guess the only way Apple could make some revenue from an unlocked phone would be with iTunes.
100% agree with you. Although I don't fault people for running out of patience, but come on. They listened to the open letter. Now give them a chance people.
I for one find this device veryyy intriguing. I'll still be waiting for the new OS but that's just because I don't have the money.
Am I the only one excited that this isn't just Treo 650 Revision 9 and finally a departure from the same old form factor?
Although this is not what I am looking for, there is a market for WinMo standard out there (not sure about the numbers but judging by the number of peoples I see in the streets with a Dash, that device did pretty well for TMo). This along with the Foleo cancellation is a promising step in my eyes.
If navigation control is done well, perhaps I might stop demanding touchscreen on my smartphone device. BUT it certainly won't be to a WinMo device. Maybe in Palm's new OS? I seem to use my stylus less and less often nowadays. Eh, we'll see.
Regardless: I for one give kudos to Palm for FINALLY trying a new form factor---now work on a device for MY market :-).
Speak for yourself sir. My 680 is pretty stable. Might crash about once a month if that. Infact, I can't remember when was the last time it crashed. I believe the crashes are atleast partially due to bad coding by application developers. Once I was set on the applications I have installed, it's been smooth sailing.
My suggestion would be to cut the fat and just keep essential applications from reliable developers.
Admittedly though: the OS should be more robust to handle developers' oopsies. HOPEFULLY that will be top priority in the development of their new OS.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
