E308: Wii MotionPlus puts better control in your motion control {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Jul 15th 2008 3:52AM So they finally found out that the IR bar and gyro isn't enough to track motion. As an example, plenty of us were very keen to see a drum game but the accuracy as of today's controllers isn't precise enough to emulate a drum kit. It's only accurate when you point it towards the bar. The gyro kind of sucks when it comes to precision.
I don't know what this new peripheral does to produce a 1:1 result. If it's a new motion bar based on some kind of radio signals rather than IR, or if it's just an evolved kind of gyro that can do precise enough motion tracking. Anyways, too bad they didn't have this ready at release, but I'm glad to see they're constantly working to improve things.
Poll: Would you buy a 12" MacBook Pro? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
May 14th 2008 4:30PM I had the 12", loved it. Had there been an Air with FW I would have bought it. So, I bought a last summer's MBP demo unit on sale cheap. Bummer... but I really needed it.
But it's the WEIGHT damnit! I want a LIGHT WEIGHT laptop. Not this heavy bastard I ended up with! Need the firewire and some of the horsepower though..
Camino 1.6 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Apr 20th 2008 7:35AM Camino seems pretty nice. And it looks very smooth.
But it seems Firefox's performance is more CPU effective. And this current 1.6 version doesn't seem suited for a PowerBook G4, all to slow.
There's only one thing i really don't like with the Gecko rendering engine, and it's the "dotted square" that surrounds and stays on all linked-images I click. I always thought it was Firefox, but since it's identical in Camino I guess it's probably a Gecko "feature".
I don't use Safari anymore. It seems to mess up some resources that never happens after my switch to Firefox.
University of Michigan creates most intense laser in the universe {Engadget}
Feb 17th 2008 6:02AM hmm... yet another tempting tool for powerhungry men.
'I wonder what happens if we direct it towards the sun?'... 'What if we vaporize one of Jupiter's moons?'... 'What if we fire it into a black hole in space?'... 'What if we inscribe something on the surface of the moon?'
Hello, my name is Chris and I ordered a new MacBook Air {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jan 20th 2008 9:54AM I was expecting either at least one mini FW port, or a special break-out-multi-port. Either way, I'd be happy to buy a new USB2 audio card, the FW one I'm using now is getting old anyway.
My only concern though is disk space. This machine is clearly fast enough to run all kinds of media software, so I think there should be a 160 GB disk available or something. But I guess then the SSD model wouldn't look so cool anymore.
MacBook Air in the air? {Engadget}
Jan 14th 2008 10:15AM I think Apple has been unwilling to compromise on their PowerBook 12" replacement. That's why nothing has been announced ever since they went intel. They wanted to do it with a bang, to make a statement and show us why the heck one should choose Apple's subnotebook and not a Vaio. Anyone could produce a good subNotebook, but Apple is one of the few that would dare to break new ground like this. I, for one, would have to buy a whole new audio card to go gigging with this one, and pray that the latency wouldn't be affected... I would do it though.
This MacBook Air name sounds almost as funky as "MacBook" did at first. Which means.. yeah, why not?
Video: Canon's VIXIA HF10 16GB dual-flash camcorder hands-on {Engadget}
Jan 9th 2008 9:20AM This is all cool. Great to see Canon finally getting on the AVC h.264 train for real. But what about that mini camcorder they released some half year ago or so, the one that filmed in HD, on flash, but in silly JPEG compression... Have they come out with any pocket sized AVC cams yet?
Sigma's DP1 with 14 megapixel APS-C sensor gets a waffle not a release {Engadget}
Nov 30th 2007 1:35PM It's really nice to know that they're still on the project, and that they give us a clue of what's going on. I was looking forward to this very much. I'd love a range finder camera with this kind of image quality.
T-Mobile responds to Vodafone iPhone injunction: $1,500 unlocked iPhones {Engadget}
Nov 21st 2007 8:54AM 999€ is no doubt crazy. But once the first unlocked version gets in the hands of the iPhone hacker community, we'll see if the difference between a locked and officially unlocked iPhone is software only. If it is, then hey... it's just a matter of copying the OS and off you go. But if it turns out Apple keep track of the phones, and that they truly ARE phoning home to register themselves, then it could prove much more difficult. I hope Apple will loosen up. Man they're getting stiffer every minute, those bastards.
The elephant-sized ad in the room {Engadget}
Nov 21st 2007 3:05AM My computer is old, and it had a rough time yesterday. Suddenly I heard "Hello I'm a Mac... and I'm a PC" and Firefox struggled to keep up with it and was suffering from CPU overload. I had to locate the tab with the ad and close it. It took a minute or so before Firefox responded. Could you please not use us as an experimental test ground, then I'd be grateful.
