My mate's got the green celebration and it's a very good car, nicely turned out, special markings and a limited edition. When the country is as small as ours, exclusivity is not something to be sniffed at.
Besides, the Mini just isn't 'cool' anymore, the brand has been raped by estate agents (realtors or whatever you call them) and 'chic' designers. This isn't copying it, its giving you a better alternative.
A car that costs c.$26,000 to you might seem a lot, but £13k for what is essentially an exclusively specced-up Zetec S is actually good value over here.
