Apple details what you need to bring for iPhone purchase {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 8th 2008 12:18PM I am Brazilian, live in Brazil, but I'd like to have a US phone (and the 3G iPhone would be the first option), since I come often and have friends in the US. But since I have no SSN, it means that can't happen, right?
Just as a curiosity, do other phones carry the same restrictions (ie, non-nationals cannot buy one?)
Thanks!

Hacking e-voting machines can be hard, Diebold shows you how {Engadget}

Jan 25th 2007 8:00PM Just to add, as a Brazilian, there are some mistakes in that statement... 1/3 of the machines of *one particular state, Alagoas* were showing signs of manipulation. Not to say it couldn't have spread to the whole, but I doubt it. Alagoas is a very poor state, and has had voting fraud about forever. Paper ballot, e-voting, nothing will help there.
Again, not to say our voting machines are perfect (far from it) but in any case it is way easier to audit e-voting than paper ballots. And as voting is mandatory in Brazil, I would guess the results kinda even out.

Foxconn denies iPod sweatshop accusations {Engadget}

Jun 19th 2006 12:48PM It's always funny to see how the developed countries get so incensed on news like that. As some post above said, that is capitalism. Period. No employer is truly interested with the welfare of their employees as far as lawbreaking goes. The wages they get there isn't that much lower than Brazilian *legal* minimum wage (about US$ 120). My american/french/english friends always get shocked when they argue someone doing my job in the "First World" would pay at least thrice more than I earn. That's being underdeveloped. I have o choice unless I move to a developed country, and even then, I'd have to face immigration laws, some sort of prejudice, etc. It's hard, but that's life.
