Is it sad that you can't take the time to update your computer to today's technology to run Vista correctly or is it sad that you blame Vista when many people are running it with very little problems?

What will people do when software companies decide to not write their applications to be compatible with XP anymore? Software increasingly, over time, requires the need for a more powerful machine and OS. Yet, people moan and groan that Vista is utter garbage. I believe that the Apple marketing has done a good job on informing the public of what Vista is like. If you were working for Apple Inc., wouldn't you be happy because of the wonderful marketing done that has set people's minds when they haven't even used the OS yet? That is just awesome and sad. As a tech, I see people tell me Vista sucks and yet, they are asking me what OS they should get for their new machine. The next question I ask is, "Have you used Vista yet?" The common answer is, "No, I just heard that it was different." Sad, pitiful people who hate change and technology.

*This rant was written on a Vista machine, next to a Ubuntu Server and XP machine.
That is definitely what we need. Let's have the government regulate business even more, telling them how to do their business which has worked out so well. OR, Microsoft can do what is best for the field and push for the change. I know some on you are still sporting Windows 3.1 but it's time for everyone wake up and realize it is going to happen.

It's almost like we forgot we did the same thing for Windows 98, Windows XP, and will continue to do it. And as someone else noted, someone has to have a XP CD laying around for you to borrow if you don't have one already.
So say if I have a phone plan with unlimited data already (own a Blackjack 1) and I want to buy an iPhone. I should be able to go to the AT&T store and pay $199 to upgrade my phone with no additional costs besides taxes, correct?
And that money that Exxon-Mobil isn't going to some large oil tycoon. It's going to the shareholders and the business that have invested in the company. You look at just the name of the company but I bet if you realized that you or your company had an investment with them (your 401k as an example) then you would think much differently then.

The economy works and is in a slow down. People's perceptions on the matters are what negatively influence our economic slow down (recession is being in the red for two or more successive quarters and we aren't).

Companies pushing to get newer and better technology is what we can look for to bring us out of this slow down. Not to mention, better politicians that aren't there to screw around...Congress, you know I'm talking about you...
@Brad:

I agree with that Dell is probably thinking for itself and trying to save money. Albeit, they will probably continue to make money offering both Vista and XP as options for building a system.

Those who have a problem with Vista really have a problem with "change". Vista is just as customizable as XP, it is more secure, and runs smoothly. If it doesn't run smoothly on your system, get it off the Pentium III and 128mb of RAM. This is the same as the idiots who bought Crysis and thought it would run on their 5 year old system.

CHANGE, people. It's sometimes good to change once in a while. Or go to Mac or Linux...I, for one, use all 3.
HA! Fight Club.
I'm still waiting for Windows Mobile 6 to be officially released on the first BlackJack. What's up with that?

From owning the first version, they can imporve upon the sluggish menus/camera, Windows Mobile 6 instead of 5, and add WiFi like the European versions have. Other than that, it's a great phone.
One of many problems I hope they fix with the Elite.
LINUX!

Come on. Microsoft must have something up it's sleeve to make a commitment like ending their most popular OS (and still in high demand) than that. Microsoft knows that Dell will start selling Linux which is already one of many thorns in it's side. I think (for them they better) they have many of the 'kinks' worked out.

I definitely understand their thought process of doing this. Why not help the consumer out by 'forcing' them to move to the technology of today? Just hope that people know that they have options such as Windows Vista, openSuSe, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mac OS X, and the other hundreds of systems available. FOR FREE!

LINUX!
Kev50027: You must not read many Engadget postings. Many of them are anti-Microsoft and yet, you think that Engadget is anti-Sony. Read much? And to say that you would happily take it off SuicideNinja's hands because he seems to not know "what it can do" is ridiculous. He must know that all you can do is play Blu-Ray movies and play the only decent game for it, Resistance. At least he owns one and can actually post a decent review of something he has dealt with more time than a guy in the game store hogging the demo system.

Why don't people just not look at the HD-DVD and the Blu-Ray and actually look to what the systems' primary purpose, PLAY GAMES!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
